Slash 4x4 plus XERun (EZRun) 1/8th scale motor
What do you guys think of running the XERun 80a and 2250kv motor in a Slash 4x4 converted to a monster truck? I would still only use one 2s or 3s lipo in it. Sound like a good idea or overkill?

It would be really slow on 2S. You would be better off sticking with the VXL it comes with if only going to run 2 or 3S.

I'm thinking like 25mph on 2s and 40mph on 3s which would be plenty!. I'm liking that all that torque would have an easy time turning near Revo sized wheels in grass and mud without overheating the motor. Maybe I'm out of line but it makes sense to me. I'm thinking if I want faster I can gear up a little as long as the batteries have enough oomph. Or just go ahead and buy a 4s if its really lacking, they're cheap enough you know where.
What's everybody else think, am I nuts?

Sounds like it should work out ok. It sounds like you thought it through and have a good idea what to expect. Doesn't sound nuts at all.

I'm checking out the $144.95 combo @ kershaw designs. That motor makes 850 watts (+/- depending on wind) on 4s. That means 2s would be (and I know I'm fudging) approximately 425 watts and 3s around 600ish so it would have to run pretty well.

Im not sure you will see 25mph on 2S unless you change your gearing, but the combo would run cool and have gobs of low end grunt.

Should work good in a slash.....................i'm having a hard time believing an 80 amp esc can run that motor without cutting out or getting real hot. That motor is an odd size..........40mm width? 3 or 4s would be a better batt choice in my opinion.

Due to the way the motor mounts on the 4x4 Slash, you may want to take some measurements before ordering that motor. If it's larger diameter it man not fit well. Also, the mounting holes may not line up and you may have to make modifications. Just something to keep in mind.

These have the "standard" diameter but are longer. Supposedly even the Mamba Monster fits with minimal mods (what those mods are I don't know). Mamba Monster is 40.5mm x 75.5mm long, these motors are 36mm by (60mm or 74mm) long.

Oh..............seems like the 10L at 2450kv would work well................still a big motor, just not so much weight and length to it.
Or as a less expensive option you could look at this setup...$90 total............

with: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8993&Product_Name=Hobby_King__Brushless_Car_ESC_100A_w/_Reverse_(Upgrade_version) This esc has good reviews at the bottom.................although its not the "sleekest" looking unit.................

RE: Slash 4x4 plus XERun (EZRun) 1/8th scale motor
These would probably run very well too:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idproduct=6674
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idproduct=6673
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they were the same motors at Kershaw Designs. His prices really aren't bad though and I bet he'd stand behind the product more than an overseas company if there were any issues.
I'm looking for an ESC that is compatible with this:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=8996
Looks like the new XERun 1/8th scale esc's are. [8D]
Edit, Dan @ Kershaw recommends the 9L as the max with the 80a esc. I thought pinions might be a problem for this but 5mm x 32 pitch are readily available. They are a bit more expensive than the pinions for the small shaft motors but oh well.
