Default has anyone tried this Hobbyking combo?

Hobbyking Brushless car power system - 3600kv/35A

I have a WK that I am thinking about putting this in. Ihave recently restored a Traxxas Hawk2 with vxl trans gears, xl-5 esc and 12t titan for my son. Iwould like to put something in my WK that would be similar in speed and run times to the Hawk2 my son is driving. At the moment Ionly have 3800mah nimh batteries.

Thoughts?

Just looking at that it seems that it should be OK, nothing spectacular, but you should get better runtimes than the stock brushed setup.

Do you have the link to the website for this setup?

The HobbyKing combos are sold here in Australia as HOBBYWING EZRUN(the manufacturers)and I know a fair few guys who use them in their short course trucks without any problems. The motor is not a true 540 size(if it has the finned can)and can run a bit hot if not geared properly. It will be ok in a small buggy,They also make the XERUN combo-a true 540 size which has a sensored motor and 60 AMP ESC which is a very nice unit.

This model is made by Novatech. Is a true 540 motor unlike the 380 size 9,12t ez-runs.

I have heard some really good things about the ez-run systems and really like the xe-run (sensored) so i might try one of them next for my new TA-05

I've got a Novatech 75amp ESC and 3300kv long can Novatech motor(5mm shaft) in my old E-Maxx-3906 model-crazy on a 3s lipo! The XErun sensored combo is really worth a look IMO.I know they can't compete with the likes of Castle,Tekin,LRP or Novak but for the price, they are not too shabby and get my vote.Past personal experience has taught me that Mamba Max,Novak and VXL ESC's fry at the same rate as budget priced ones!

Yeah, My Havok smoked itself today. Not really happy about it but who is when it happens.

I cooked 2 Novak HV PRO esc's-You want to try to get them fixed here in Australia-the first one cost me more in emails, correspondance and phone calls than it was worth!

What is the shaft diameter? Does the stock traxxas pinion gear work with this motor?
I ordered the combo for a rustler, but need to know if I need to get different gears. Hate to wait three weeks for shipping from Hong Kong only to find out that I need to wait another week for gears.
thanks

On the standard EZrun & XErun 380 and 540 size motors the shaft diameter is 3mm so it WILL accept a 48 pitch pinion gear as used in the Slash,Rustler,Bandit & Stampede. You can use the original pinion gear off the Titan brushed motor.

Jethro.

i have this in my sc10 with a 20 tooth pinion , it will do wheelies if i am not easy oth the throttle on 2 cell lipo and could go up tp 3 cells.

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7188&Product_Name=Turnigy__Brushless_ESC_60A_w/_Reverse_prog._(v2.2)

i get a little cogging at startup but thats it , you also need to put the timing on low . i did the timing and the cogging is amost all gone but the esc is not sencered but will still work
