http://rccaraction.com/articles/nimhbatcare1.asp is a decent article on battery charging & stuff.
and batteryspace.com has some usefull info. http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...on=Custom&ID=3
so far as I know, just don't charge them at a high amp rate the first 3 or 4 charges, and they will be fine.

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

Ok, I've had my Pede for about 2 weeks. Got one for me and one for my son. We're both rooks and beatin on these and they take it all.
I've read about 15 pages of this thread and learned a ton--thank you all esp. 45mphpede.
What I'm trying to decide is what motor/esc is the best "bang for the buck" --looking to get maybe 10mph more and wheelies.
Sounds like aluminum shock caps,
bearings all around, new body, and motor/esc.
Amy I missing anything key?
What motor/esc if you boil it down is best?
Brushless kits start around 215 from what I've seen. ARe they enough better than std motors to justify?

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

They are very much better than brushed motors. They do not have brushes to wear out, they are more efficient with the power their given, they have greater torque than a same size brushed motor, they are typically sealed, so the bearings last longer, and they have much higher rpm capability.

I ordered a Mamba Max 5700 setup for my Pede. I went with Castle Creations because I really enjoy the adjustability found in their ESC's (Using the Castle link). If it is nearly as insane as the Mamba 8000kv system that is in my RC18MT, I will be grinning from ear to ear.

If you consider the cost of a good brushed motor ($60) and the cost of a high performance ESC ($110), the Brushless setups are not much more.

F150 Dan's videos got me wanting to take my Pede brushless. Here is one of his videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZexBbcSK6qQ

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

Well the new packs are insane!!! Had it running for about 15 min and it flew. Then it started going really slow and a few seconds later there was smoke pouring out from under the body. I got closer and realized i fried the motor. So i need a new motor one that will handle 7 cells with out a problem. For now im running the stock stinger from my villain, but really need a better motor.

Lol, another person who got a pede after watching f150dan's vids, join the club.

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

Why does his ss5800 looks so fast compared to other vids I have seen? I was considering asking for an ss5800 but I don't know. I am just worried that once I get used to the speed of the ss5800 I will get bored with it and have to buy something faster. So why not just get the faster thing anyways, and just learn throttle control from there? I'm very good with the throttle, not jerky or get scared or anything so I think I could handle more power.

Definatley sloooooow!!!! Stock motor on a $10 Battery (6 cell 1500mah). Just got paid yesterday so within the next week i will order new battries and maybe a motor if i have enough money left over.

edit: what would be a good motor? I was thinking the motor in this video but i dont know what exact motor it is? How many turns?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=VWf_hx4CiOM

I am almost positive that is the Orion SV2 PRO BB 17x2 motor because in his second "at the cottage" vid it says its 17 turns. And on the first vid if you click the "more info" button he says its an Orion SV2 Pro BB but not how many turns....then on the second vid in the "more info" it says 17 turns

Will that motor handle 7 cells on 14-15/87 gearing? Without getting to hot like the stock motor?

Edit: I fried 2 stinger motors in 2 days with the new batts and stock pinion. Time for a new motor!

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

The stork should be delivering my xl-5 pede on oct. 2.

I already have the rpm carriers, bumper, esc plate, and a alum idler on it's way. I will probably run the stock motor and esc for a bit. Then I will put in the novak ss4300 or ss5800.

What else is really needed to have a fantastic unstoppable basher? Is a wheelie bar an absolute need? Should I buy one or make my own?

Anyone on here done the wide-pede conversions? I am pretty sure a couple have including sleepy. What are your feelings on the wide pede? Is the jato coversion the best or the rear arms on front enough?

Glad to be joining the ranks,
Duneslider

With the ss5800 (which I recomed over the 4300), you will need a wheelie bar, doesnt matter if u make or buy one.

duneslider 09-29-2006 06:43 PM

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

I have the ss4300 now but will be getting the 5800 some time soon.

Should be fun to have.

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

What motor can i get to run on 7 cells i was thinking the one i mentioned above but wasnt sure if it would handle 7 cells without over heating. Also he was geared 15/87 on 6 cells so i was thinking maybe 13-14/87 on 7 cells. what do you guys think?

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

Maybe a 17-turn Team Orion SV2 Pro BB. That one guy in that you tube video on the previous page was running it and it was popping wheelies like crazy... He was running it with 12 degrees of timing and a 15/87 gearing.

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

I makeshift made an awesome ramp today. All I did was pull out two legs of a card table (3 feet x 3 feet) and it had an approximate 35-40 degree angle. Then I took a 4 x 8 foot sheet of 1/8" wood which is very bendable and layed it over the card table. I was running my pede with a Chameleon 2 Pro motor and got about 8 feet of air and 15 feet distance.

Sounds fun! I'm always amazed at how my Pede handles jumps like that without problems.

yeah same here. I wish I woulda had a camera ready or something.

Waiting on new rpm carriers. Friday I'm getting my mamba 5700. The first thing I'm going to do is jump the crap out of it. I hope the widepede conversion can handle the abuse I'm going to give this thing.

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

I was wondering if I should get a 1" extended chassis or the stock length? And if I do get an extended chassis what bodies will fit. I found a nice list w/ every body that works w/ picks and even ones to stay away from. It is a real nice list however it doesn't say anything about 1" extended chassis's at all. Thanks in advance , Nick

Almighty ODST 10-02-2006 08:01 PM

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

You can use MAXX size bodies if you extend the body an inch. Look at page 45 of this thread and F150DAN shows he extended his and the MAXX body he used.

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

Ya, f150 dan kinda home lengthened his frame though, still cool. I think he had the widepede conversion too and it looks awesome with that atomix body.

Almighty ODST 10-02-2006 08:54 PM

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

Im gonna lengthen mine the same way as Dan cuz I have an extra chassis just sittin here (actually an extra truck but wth why not use it for parts?).

Almighty ODST 10-04-2006 01:03 AM

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD

Ok so I am making a list of parts I would need to make my truck brushless (parts, spares, experimenting with gear ratios etc.) And besides needing a better radio and batteries what else would I need?

I finally got my used pede yesterday...stock stinger and MSC...yeah not really that great but I am learning to drive well before any upgrades. Anyway even stock it is tons of fun. I cant imagine how much fun it will be when I start adding power....
