Sweetest Charger Ever!

I was browsing UH and my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw this- http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6301
It looks to be very well built! I mean just by looking at the pics/info it has to be the best charger out there for $200.

Here are some stats...

Mega Power Infinity-960SR w/ Balancer 12S
The Mega Power Infinity 960SR can handle up to 12 cells, either Lipoly or LiFePo4.
Included in the kit is a temp sensor and the Infinity Deluxe LCB-12S Cell Balancer, which plugs into the data port of the 960SR to provide individual cell information.
All data can be shown in real time, and graphically, the charger has dual ports for both Lipoly/LiFePo4 and Tx/Rx at the same time!
This truely is all the charger you will ever need.

Maximum output is 10A (180W).
Input is 11~15v

I dont know about you guys but i think this thing will sell like hotcakes.:)

Does that even charge NiMH? I don't see where it does if so. If I am correct I would rather stick to my 989.

Infact it does...

(Consumer Review)
I have both
Robbe Power Peak Infinity III and
Mega Power Infinity-960SR with LCB-12s Balancer. Works great with a123/lifepo and lipo.

observe this charger needs a 20Amps power supply as it able to charge at high power levels.

It charges and discharges NiCd/NiMh/LiPo/LiFePo/PB(lead acid batterys)

It will balance charge LiPo + LiFePo, The balancer can be used stand alone or with charger, will then display balance levels on the nice screen with blue back lite, clearly visible out side in sun!

great packige, charger+balancer+cables! u cant go wrong with this charger!
1337 product combo!

But unless you fly do you really need 12S? lol.

This one is 130 and does everything, and charges 8S lithium.

there's a hyperion one, that does the same stuff and can output 250w instead of 180w

and it's cheaper

I had an Ultra 550 modular in the basement that wasn't being used. That's one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BWC4N8?...0&linkCode=asn

It's turned out to be an awesome charger PSU. It was super easy to make a jumper using an old ATX connector to turn it on, and there's a rocker switch on the back for on/off. Then you can make as many pigtails as you need to connect chargers to the PSU. If you use the 4 pin +12v P4 plug as well, you can connect 7 12v devices directly to the PSU. Simply unplug the ones you don't need for a nice clean PSU. I didn't require any resistors or anything on the 5v rail to keep the +12v rail over 12v under load. I can run all 5 of my chargers off it at the same time with no problems, lol. Works good!!

The 5v resistor mod may or may not be necessary. I can tip you off on a real easy way to do it. Take the PC power supply in question, and use a paper clip to jump the green wire in the big ATX plug with any of the black wires. The PSU SHOULD power on. If so, you are good to go. You can cut off the ATX connector leaving only the green/black wires if you like, and solder the green/black wires together. Connect your charger to the PSU it and put it under load (start charging a pack). Check the voltage on any of the yellow/black wires and make sure you are close to or over 12v while the charger is working. If not, you can put the recommended resistors on the 5v rail (red wire and black wire) to get some load on the 5v rail, this should boost up the 12v rail a bit. Alternately, you can just hook a fan up to one of the molex plugs running on 5v (again, red wire and black wire) to put some load on the 5v rail. It's really quite easy. I have made several of them. A lot of the net articles over-complicate it. Let me know if you have specific questions, I'll be happy to help.

Well I now have 3 power supplies because my teacher gave me another. This one is a dell and it looks to be on the older side 1995-1999. But my teacher says it works great so go figure... I really only want a 12v output from it and nothing else. theres got to be an easier way for me to be able to do this.

83gt 12-01-2007 10:52 AM

RE: Sweetest Charger Ever!

It's REALLY REALLY easy. Plug the power supply in, and then short the green wire in the long plug to any black wire in the long plug. To test with, it's fine to use a paper clip stuck into the plug to short these. That tricks the PSU into powering up. Not all PSU's will work for this, so try all three and see which ones power up when you short those two wires. Of the ones that do power on, use the one with the highest rating on the 12v+ rail. This info should be printed on a sticker on the outside of the PSU.

Once the thing is powered on, all you need to do is plug your charger to any yellow (12v+) and black (ground) wires. This will power your charger. If (only if!) you have problems maintaining 12v on the PSU while charging, you can add some resistors or a fan on a red (5v+) and black (ground) wire.

RE: Sweetest Charger Ever!

Guys,

I just took delivery of my new MegaPower Infinity 960 SR with the 12 S lithium cell balancer.
The problem is that I can not make the balancer work with the charger; I can get to the point that I can read the cell voltage in the charger but when I try to charge or discharge, I get an error that the battery is not connected.
I have checked the instruction and every cable looks to be connected correctly.
Also the Balancer only has one button the MODE button, and you should be able to change from LiFe to LiPo, but I just get LiFe lit, and can´t change it.
I can get the battery to charge if I connect straight to the charger but through the balancer does work, is like one doesn´t see the other.
Is my balancer broken, faulty? or am I doing something wrong with this unit?

If this is anything similar the to cellpro 10S, you need a termination plug for the main battery connector if you want to charge only through the balance tap.

RE: Sweetest Charger Ever!

A link to the specs and a manual will help us to help you. I'n sorry I am not familiar with the charger, balancer, wiring. Most set-ups are very similar though.

Just to be clear on the problem:

You can get it to charge directly, but when trying to charge through the balancer it shows a battery not connected error, right? Hopefully you have both a balance lead and the main power leads hooked from the balancer.

hook up both the main connector to the battery and the balance connector. they should both be connected at the same time in order to charge is my guess (that's how it works on my T2, TP1010C and TP610C)

Yes, I can only get this to charge if the battery is connected direct to the charger without the balancer.
When I press the mode button on the balancer, I get the leds to flash for afew minuts and at this stage I can get a reading of the battery voltage from the charger, but can not change the battery type on the Balancer from LiFe to LiPo.
When I try to charge or discharge the battery I get a connetion error...

I see no problem with the connections. It may be in the balancer mode. It's just a guess, but it seems the balancer has two problms. Is there a pdf link to balancer manual we can view? Push button, hold buttton? perhaps.

Nope! I have checked and the fuse is OK.

Does any one have this charger and uses this balancer? how do you make it work?

Does anyone know who imakes this units, or have a web site that I can send a note to the manufactor.

I got this from www.flying-hobby.com, but don´t want to pay for the shipping all the way back to Hong Kong for a unit that cost ~$60 usd (Balancer)
