HPI Savage Flux First Impressions (pictures)

Just picked up HPI's new offering, haven't had a chance to run it yet. Looks great so far, same Savage X beefiness, except now with a brushless system installed.

* XL based 4 shock suspension
* Flux Tork 2200 1/8 size brushless motor w/ built in heatsink
* Flux Blur ESC, up to 6s (22.2v) Lipo
* All metal transmission, including spur
* Heavy duty dogbones
* New body
* Wheelie bar
* Deans connectors installed

According to HPI it's capable of about 62mph on 6s (2x 2s), which is impressive for a truck this large and heavy. I'll try it out using 6s Lipo as well as with 14 cell NiMh.

Street price is about $630 w/o batteries

Here are some shots, enjoy:

Thanks.

That motor is a beauty. I like how they milled that heatsink on it, looks sweet.

lol nice esc mount. Seriously dude that truck is a beaut. You might wanna put some more zip ties on that esc though, you wouldn't want the monster to get off it's leash hahaha :).

A guy at my lhs just got one of these. I have not seen it yet but i am pretty sure I will be getting some stick time on it. Can't wait.

RE: HPI Savage Flux First Impressions (pictures)

Yeah, you'd think for $600 They'd at least give me 2 zip ties [&:]

I'll take it out tomorrow hopefully if I have time.

What kind of motor? Is it as good as the castle / steve neu designed one (2200KV) that normally comes with the MMM?

fusebmx13 02-03-2009 11:00 PM

RE: HPI Savage Flux First Impressions (pictures)

Yes it is the same thing. HPI just re labels the castle stuff and uses it. They call it some goofy names but it is the castle system. Same as with the e firestorm system. It is all compatible with the castle link also.

sheograth 02-03-2009 11:07 PM

RE: HPI Savage Flux First Impressions (pictures)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is an MMM based system and a Neu 1512/1515 - just rebranded as HPI Flux.

Which isn't a bad thing, those are good units.

I'll tell ya what it looks like on 6S...

Picture the truck flashing past on the street at an ungodly speed sliding upside-down on its lid.

That's about what it looks like on 6S!

Seriously!

That is what my borther's e maxx looks like on 6s :). Only the body is usually half on and half off, grinding on the body mounts and breaking tons of rpm parts.

You should do a Nitro conversion on that, and make the worlds first Nitro converted Savage Flux. :D :D

That is one sick piece of hardware there. I am really interested in your impression of the truck and driving it around. Didn't you just get a brand new Slash or VXL Rustler too?

Its funny every video i see on you tube of it. And its always on its lid.
I mean its not very fun when you have to keep running to it and flipping it back over.

They really need a clutch for those engines to get smoother power delivery. Did you see that techno is releasing a clutch for electric motors?

People need to learn how to setup a truck so it doesn't constantly roll over.

After watching the video my less than 2 year old E-Savage seems positively antiquated. But I'd get tired of running it in that condition without toning it down. I mean my nitro Savage is hard enough to keep off its lid and I've got offset wheels and a wheelie bar on the thing!

I bet that Flux would be a lot of fun in the sand with paddles on the rear. What a roost it would throw!

Few more pics, outdoors this time. Unfortunately I don't have the 2 extra TRX connectors I was going to use, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow before I run it.

Yeah, I can't either. I eagerly charged my batteries only to realize I didn't have the right connectors I thought I had. Oh well, I'll go by the LHS tomorrow and get a few. Hopefully I can go in there without coming out with another truck or something :|

I can take some nude in public pictures, the Savage isn't shy :D

Sheesh so impatient, I was outside taking them - there they are, Savage Flux HP - In the flesh.

It's built like a tank, as we've come to expect from the Savage platform. Everything is heavy and solid.

I really can't wait to run it [&:]

DANG, now I need to clean the drool of my keyboard and desk..........................

I wonder what I could sell to get myself one of those hotties.............................maybe it is time for me to sell the vintage e-maxx, e-maxx, e-savage, TC4, T4, X-Crawler, kids and the wife to get one! Well maybe not the kids and the wife then who would I have to well at when I break it..............

That is one well built truck, it makes my E-Savage look like a toy.........................

sheograth 02-04-2009 06:24 PM

RE: HPI Savage Flux First Impressions (pictures)

Yeah, it's great that they used the nitro savage platform. Far beefier than the E-savage one. This thing is big, heavy, and really formidable. Definitely the beefiest thing I've seen that isn't 1/5 or 1/6 scale.

Sell the E-maxx and E-savage, get this. It's pricey though, especially if you don't already have good batteries to use.

Actually if I remember correctly, Tekno's ElectriClutch has been out for quite some time. I believe they released it right after they came out with their Revo conversion kit.

And great pics Sheo!

yeah they do have it with the revo converstion kit, and XRC mag recomend running no clutch springs just shoes cuz you don't need to idle with an E motor

There's servo tape under the ESC. I don't know why they put a zip tie on it..........maybe to keep it stable during shipping? Mine has one too-I haven't cut it off yet.

I was surprised that it feels as heavy as my nitro Savage. The price is all relative....you know what you are getting into at this level.
