I have a Mars EX-1. I know it is a bit dated now, but still good. If I got a 10.5T brushless, does that equate to a 19T brushed?

Quite expensive considering that the CO27 is like $30 lol. I know it is o lot more powerful and I would love to have the power, but its a case of would I ever use it or would I be able to keep up in a race.
I used to race most weekends but I had to sell everything (had a 415MSX and TB Evo).
now looking for quite a cheap entry that will be competative as I would need to pay for myself (I'm only 15). This is why im looking at the TA05, as it is not marketed as the very best of the best (no offense).
Any solutions would be apprieciated - budget is around $450 for everything needed minus radio.

Thanks
Scott

you had a 415 and A TB evo, and you are only 15 ? im 16

the '05 won't live up to the 415 and evo, but it is an extremely competitive club racer.

A regual 05 is very different from the 415. The TA05MS would be comparable. But really, driving is the main thing. I have a standard TA05 with a couple hopups so its comparable to the TA05R and I've been able to keep up with TC5s and Xrays at our local races. Not really because the car is as good but driving makes a huge difference, with that being said I think the TA05 is highly under rated. One kid has a hopped up TC4 which is a popular and capable car but he can't drive it. Hes always running into walls and other people.(me several times [:'(]). The brushless makes a huge difference. With the brushless I can run a gearing of 5:1, the best I got with a brushed motor was about 6.5:1.

if you have a choice of brushless at 13.5 or a 27 turn brushed get the brushless a 40 pinion and a 100 spur and eat them brushed cars for lunch thats what i run in a mod class on a 80 ft flowing carpet track and can keep up with 10 turns all night. As for motor\esc temp i run about 100f after a 5min soak 95f with fan just off the track. And i feel i can go even lower with the spur gear just don't have one right now. And the car is a ta05r with a speed 6 body if that matters.

the problem with gearing is there is no easy answer with my setup I started 115/28 went up with pinions then down with spurs a inferred temp gauge is the best investment get the highest temp you want to run then back the pinion off a couple of teeth. where i would start is the specks of the 5.5 motor rpm is 7400 per volt at 7 volts it would be 50000+ rpms alot more rpms than the 13.5 at 21000+ i would start at a good 7 to 9 turn brushed motor gearing and run shorter runs and watch your temp and make adjustments according. It will take a lot of track time to dial it in but well worth it in the end. That 5.5 would be scary fast good luck with it. The big race we had at the end of feb we had a guy running a 3.5 novak he ran a 19/100 gearing in a xray 007 chassis seemed it was too fast for the track no grip to the track looked like he was drifting the whole race. Untill be went up in smoke.

I am at the chassis setup stage with my modded TA05 and would like some suggestions as to what amounts of camber, toe, ride height and droop to run. I will be running on asphalt on rubber tyres .Running a 12T Reedy Krypton and 6 cells.
My shocks, alloy tie rods and graphite front shock tower should be here Monday.

drop it down as low as possible (about 2-3mm), give it a bit of droop, toe in on front and rear (a few degrees will do) camber the back wheels inwards more than the front ones.

Thanks luke. I will give it a shot.
I may have to borrow the Prolines off my TC3 for some traction lol
Just finished painting a Skyline body shell for it.
The car is still waiting for its shocks and front graphite tower.

I think it is rated at around 200 amps with a peak of 300. amps. It is the only one I had here that woas capable of coping with my 12 T.Also handy for when I play with my 3s Lipo packs.

My new TA-05 for racing, the other one is getting sold.

i picked it up for £100 ($200)

the only standard things on it are the rear shock mount, servo posts and body posts.

it came with a brand new body shell and brand new subaru gold rally wheels, also a set of TRF fluoride coated shocks (which i sold for $60)

also, how i am hiding it from my family

rcluke,

i ran a novak 5.5r in my TA05 a long time ago. that combo is fine for bashing, but the TA05 lacks rear traction for that motor. even the TA05MS, which does have more rear wheel traction than the standard TA05s, does not have enough rear bite to actually race high-powered mod with. the TA05 is a car built for stock/mild modified, which is why it outdoes much more expensive cars that are actually built for hot modified motors in stock/mild-modified classes.

my novak 5.5r does not see much use now a days. i bought it when it was the new thing to see how fast it really is. i run a 10.5ss in my TA05MS most of the time.

nice looking car Luke, I've just ordered another TA05 IFS for my son, and a Scoobi shell, I'm getting the shell that comes with the kit, [)] , just got a Mondeo shell for mine, (the Rapid fit version, i'll post a few pics when I get a mo), and new chromed wheels with carpet tyres for it.

just one question in regards your hiding place, (which amused me [sm=lol.gif]), what happens when your mum goes to get your lunchbox off the shelf picks it up and sees the Scoobie? [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] lol

here's that standings for the race on saturday:

1st - Smokin' fast IFS with Novak GTB
2nd - almost stock TA-05 with Novak GTB
3rd - ME with my team orion core (brand new brushes )
4th - IFS (don't know what he was running)
5th - standard 05 running something brushless
6th - majorly hopped up standard 05 (don't know what SHE was running)
7th - standard 05 (again, no idea [&:])
8th - the TA-05-R (DNF) something happened to his car. I think it was belt problems

It was a good race. That IFS was insane though. I don't think he messed up once.

that poor guy with the TA-05R.... his car would be running fine then suddenly the car would roll to a stop. he'd gas it and all you'd hear is a whirring clicking sound (lol)

good times.

Well, I finally got my TA05. It's the Raybrig NSX 2005.
I have most of it put together already, just the electronics and tires need to be mounted, and the body completed.
Anybody have any suggestions as to upgrades, or anything that I might want to do to it?
