new Radio and Trailer light kit arrived today, also received some shocking news, all Tamiya spray paint (just in the UK i presume) has been recalled, its expected to be available again next year! Tamiya aren't saying exactly what the problem is, but i'm guessing its pretty serious, what about the people that already bought their paint products? ive seen no advertisements stating not to use it etc.. From a different site - straight from a Tamiya employee (or insider):

Due to the rash of Lead and toxic issues in the news the government was cracking down on labeling. For things like content, size, languages etc...

Again it's not a big issue as the paint is not changing it just has to be relabeled to sell it. We were able to get this done years ago and quickly so there was no backlash, most people in the USA did not even know. It seems the UK is having a bit more issues with it.

Hey Lee, nice project there!

I have a feeling there will be a small package full of Tamiya cans on your doorstep, soon!

Let me know when you received everything!

In fact, I too find it hard to get Tamiya bottle paints here or maybe I didn't find hard enough. I seem to only see Tamiya Spray Paints more than their bottle paints.

Good to see it arrived quickly and safely!
I'm curious to see the different shade in yellow.

struggling on the lights as the instructions aren't very clear, eg: i know to paint one part red and the other yellow, one part stays clear, but the other shaded area's dont show me much, other than they are not left clear, parts need scrubbing, then ready for paint.

what i did is that for the area that holds the left/right indicator i painted clear orange, and then the part with the reverse light i leave it clear, then the rest just go clear red

Yes I must agree that their manuals need to more precise in their instructions as a lot of times I am lost and had to figure my way out.

Is it necessary to sand the surface before painting(I know it helps the paint to adhere) but was thinking about using primer alone?

i haven't sanded or primed, i just took my usual 'lexan' approach and washed the body parts in soap, which will hopefully rid the parts of any wax/grease deposits.

I think it should go on well. Do you think other brand of paint will work to replace Tamiya's clear paints? I am thinking of using vallejo but not sure if they have clear series?

Ummm...just some adcise in slecting the color scheme for a volvo..

i have seen plenty of the player spray them in plain yellow...its OK nice..but not stand out among all others....

so if its me....i would do muti color on the Volvo to make it stand out from the rest, i will do a bit of search on the internet for some color scheme...then decide which one i want....personally..i tihnk one single color is too simple~~
