Realflight and Windows 8
#26
Installed on a Win 8 pc with AMD processor this evening. I ran into the same problem as 5113wg did. Seemed to freeze up and do nothing. Just let it sit for about 20 min and the install menu did finally appear. Clicked install and it took about another 20 minutes to install software. I rebooted and plugged in the transmitter USB and waited another 20 minutes for it to ask for both codes. No big deal just make sure you are not in a rush.

Did it finally run good then? Does your computer get warm or the fans come on after while like mine? I have Win7 though but I think it's my AMD processor that's getting warm.

The problem is not between RealFlight and Windows 8. The problem is between Windows 8 and certain AMD processors in some computers. Here's a link to the Knifeedge forum post about it:

As Bax indicated the problem is not with the simulator. It is with Windows 8 and the installers being affected by chipset drivers.
If you see this problem, you WILL see it with other installation routines.
Note that is is highly UNLIKELY that AMD chipset upgrade will hurt anything. Non-Intel systems will just disregard it, and AMD systems will apply the upgrade only if your system contains a supported chipset... that in spite of the fact that the chipset installer may run to completion successfully no matter what.

Just a question will R/F 3 work on his system I went thru the manual but nothing is mentioned about Apple

Bob,
RealFlight is a Windows application. You'll need to run Windows on the Mac to run RealFlight on it. I've heard applications like Bootcamp work pretty well for this. Beyond that I don't know anything about it.

I've been working with a CAP Squadron that has a ParkZone Radian 3 control. I'd like to have them fly my RF 6.5 with that airplane if I could find one. The closest that comes with it is the Multiplex Easy Star. Anybody seen a Radian?

The Radian as well as the Flyzone Calypso are available in the Swap Pages.

There is one person who reports success with Win7 under Parallels on the Knife Edge forums.
Remember though that this is not a "supported" configuration. Bootcamp is supported by Knife Edge.

Well I have picked up a R/F 6.5 and have it up and running, But I have some questions.
Because I fly only tail draggers How do I chenge the training plane from a trike to a tail dragger, I have been thru the manual at least twice and don't seam to be able to find any referance to this.
Next is how do you change the wing loading on a war bird to give it more reallistic handling and landing qualities

I have tried Knifeedge, but Iam having broblems getting on there web site, and have sent them an E- Mail for help

I see where GP advertises Real Flight as "Light Years Ahead" but until they make it compatible with Mac without having to install Boot Camp or some other program to run it, they are "Stone Age" as far as I'm concerned.

There is not a snowball's chance that you'll see a native mac version.
You may want to try AF 5.5 which has a native mac program, but as far as commercial RC sims, your options are limited.

You can merely choose a different plane for free flight.
However you can change the plane the tutorials use by using a console command. I don't remember what it is offhand but you can look it up on the KE forums.
Now if you mean that you want to take an existing tail dragger airplane and make it a trike, you can not do that visibly, as it will require a change to the underlying 3D representation of the plane.
Most planes that are set up in either configuration are available on the swap pages... for instance the Big Stik can be set up as either, so there is a Trike version that comes with the sim, and there are downloadable tail dragger versions.
I've modeled one with the same Syssa 35cc engine I'm flying on my Giant Big Stik.

Weight each part of the plane, and then enter that into the sim in the physics editor for each corresponding part.
For non simulated items, such as a CDI, or CDI packs, weights, etc... you can add "mass objects".
If you get the weights right in the sim and have identical all up empty weight totals, you should have the same wing loading in the sim as your real plane.
The editor will report the wing loading, expected stall speed, etc.
Remember though that the engine performance can be a "best case" in the sim, so I typically change the engine output amount down to about 80-90% to get a more real world result in normal flying.
