You don't need to uninstall DX 9. Find the webpage for your video card manufacturer and download and install an updated driver for the video card that will support DX 9. Do the same for your soundcard. Be sure and download the driver that is compatible with whatever version of Win 98 you are running.
PS: Upgrade your operating system to Win XP when you can. Much more stabile system and easier to update.
Hope this helps.

From: ozark, AL,
Thanx WCB,I have just about lost my mind trying to get this thing to work.I am not very good at finding driver downloads.I have downloaded several different drivers for soundblaster 16pci.But I must be doing something wrong.I know it's a lot to ask,but would you find out which update I need? I have win.98. I think the video card is o.k. I was told that soundblaster16pci and dx9.0 will not work together.I live in a very small town, and I have been to every one I can find about this ,but,no luck. Thanks for any help you can give ,and if you don't have time it's o.k. click to STRAT - EXECUTE and type DXDIAG followed by ENTER. Wait some time. Choose SOUND in the comming screen and give us some details. What exactly is the type and the vendor? Please tell us driver date and version.

That*s pretty simple.

Your driver is a little old. Download the above driver and install it EXACTLY as written in the instructions.
One more thing: Do you run a special screen saver? In some cases, custom screensaver are not complying to the rules. If G2 goes mad after SOME time, it may by that either a sceensaver tends to activate or other time sensitive programs running in the back try something funny that disturbs G2. Please check if such programs are running and stop them.

From: ozark, AL,
Well,I downloaded the latest update,ver:5.12,and when I restarted everything,dx diag. says, error problem getting extra sound#0x88780032.When I went to rf control panel,[I reinstalled it] and tested the sound,it said failure@step 3 Direct sound create.I had to go back to the older driver to get the game to play at all. Also,my media player had no sound with the newer driver.I am tired of messing with it,[3weeks and boocoo$$] I guess i should not have bought g2 until I could afford enough computer to run it. Live and learn I guess. But Wolfgang,I really do thank you for your help.If you were here,I'm sure you could make it run. So,thanks again and take care.Franklin
