For grand son I would like to get a RC flight simulator that doesn't use a computer. Back a few years ago when there were hobby shops there was one at one of the hobby shops in Joplin. I wasn't interested at the time there was a unit that looked like a transmitter but it had a cord with the three AVG plugs. It plunged right into a TV. It had three models a glider a 3 channel trainer and a 4 channel airplane. It wasn't fancy but it worked and it was $69.Dose any one know where I can get one now.

Buy a cheap Android tablet ($70) with hdmi out and use one of the sims available in the Play Store.
The Absolute RC Plane Simulator is $4.99 in the Play Store.
Total cost about $75 and you can still use the tablet for other stuff.

Technically ALL simulators need a computer, be it housed in an Android, or an imbedded device.
There are simulators for consoles as well, but most produce less than satisfactory results, primarily due to the controllers.
There is a vast difference between using an Android screen to control a sim or a game console controller, compared to even the cheapest USB RC controller.
If you want to save money, try out FMS (it's free ) and a $18.00 USB RC controller.
