Default Cub

I'm about to finish a J-3 Cub... and I was just wondering if flying it is like flying the simulator for it, off of Add On 1?!?! I can't seem to get my add ons to work yet, but hopefully I will soon, and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how similar they are! Thanks!

I have Real Flight Deluxe W/add on 1. The cub on there takes off somewhat realistic but the glide is bad, The float in ground effect is OK. But the main wheel type landings are too easy and the 3 point full stall landing is rather difficult compared with the actual model.

Look on the real flight site and read around on there. They (some people) talk about this and some have attempted corrections that you can down load.

Enjoy,

Jim

Thanks a lot Jim. I just got my Add On working and have flown the Cub a couple times now. The take off surprised me at first, but then I realized that... well, it is a cub. As you can probably tell, I'm a beginner, meaning I haven't successfully flown and landed without the simulator ... and living in Alaska, I have this whole winter to practice.. so hopefully when the time comes, that cub won't turn into a kit the first time I try to fly it!

Copy the plane you want to fly and make it a little larger so you can see it. Turn auto zoom to
"ON" so the plane will not get so small so soon. The 4 stroke engines are not as irritating as the 2 cycles. Keep on the same flying field for a while so that you become used to where you are at. I stay a little lower than I would in real life so I can see the ground features and know where I am.

The Space Walker is a great flying plane that is most realistic in all respects. It's a low wing plane but it is a tail dragger. The take off and climb out are not the same as the real model cub but the approach and landings are close. The landings are most important. You may want to fly the PT trainer a bit before moving to a tail dragger so you can build up your reaction-response. It's a little on the simple side for landings.

Later, like in the spring, put in a little wind (not much), some gusts and thermal activity. Keep this stuff on the conservative side because it seems a little more reactive than in real life.

Something I've observed on the real model Cub is that on take-off, a lot of people have trouble with it ground looping unless it has a lot of power and lifts off immediately.

Good luck and keep trying, you'll be very good on the simulator by next summer. Use it a little bit every day. To get accustomed to the left-right difference when the plane is approaching you is something you need to get used to. Think of yourself as being in the plane.

Thanks for your reply. To tell you the truth, I might be spending a little too much time on the simulator... I've only had it for three days now, and I have logged a lot of hours on it already.
