Default I want a simulator!

I am interested in getting a simulator. So i have a bunch of questions.
I have a futaba 6xa and a new radio (the same or better) is in the works. That in mind what else is involved? Im not new to computer games and such, so the software end is the easy part.
Once you have the transmitter working on the computer can it be used to fly in other simulators and/or games?
The software is kinda expensive, is it worth it? No glitch's, good framerates and graphics? Does it look and feel right?
Can anyone tell me framerates with what card and cpu?
Is there a better place, other then Tower Hobbies, to get the cable for the transmitter, the software (I assume thats all you need) for a sweet price?
Is the software CD dependent?

They make games that look real for $45. This looks like its $200+ , am I right?
Is it fun?

Have you tried FMS it's doesn't look very real, but it's free and has a good frame rate and most of the interfaces work with it.

Mars, you can get Aerofly Pro for $129 at helihobby.com This is the interface type where you can use your own transmitter. You won't regret it !

I totally agree with rajul. Aerofly Pro is a great simulator with awesome graphics and physics. When you crash, pieces of your plane break off. When you do a hard landing, your landing gear break and your wheel pops loose. Plus, you don't need to plug your own transmitter into a cheap plastic one in order to make it work. I am getting 60+ fps on an old GeForce2 MX video card and a P4 2.4GHz CPU. Others are getting 80+ fps on current video cards.

Great info guys. That sounds like what I'm after.

Thanks for a FPS w/ card. It gives me a good idea what to expect.

If your gforce mx is hitting 60fps then I should be fine. With that 2.4 if you got rid of your stock card and got a 4200gf you would hit 100 I bet! Anything over 90 is gravy. Great info just what I needed!

Thanks!

I'm getting from 80-100 fps on a Pentium 4, 2.4ghz, and a GForce 5200FX card.
