I'm not doubting my choice at all. I just hope it gets here soon. This past month has been terrible as far as wind is concerned. I tried to sneak in a couple of flights this afternoon with my UCD, but it was blowing so bad, I couldn't do anything. Hopeflly AFP will help curb the craving for flying when the weather doesn't cooperate.
Speaking of weather, how realistic is the wind in AFP? Can you set it for any direction, and can you make it gusty?

As you can see in the pic the sim has wind speed, turbulence, thermic and direction. I was never really into gliders but it's pretty cool that it has thermic activity as well. You can launch right off the side of a cliff and soar, or you can glider tow. Now I know your a Pro-Bro as I am ... but you gotta try this. Maybe just once.
When you mix thermalic with turbulence that make for some fun, just like our weather here in STL. Only a couple more days and it will be there!

LoL@ Dion i see your ProBro image made you choose a power glider rofl, with the wind cranked up you can stay floating for hours of that cliff!! totaly relaxing wing flexing fun
Joebob good weather is one thing, dragging yourself away from aeropro when it gets there is another

Hey man I am leaving right now, Sunday morning to head up to the Pro Bro event in Effingham. No, I'm not going to a glider event. Still plenty of grease left in these knees and elbow. I'm just preparing for my future retirement. COME ONE MAN, HELP ME OUT!

Ok, I've read every post in this thread and now I'm confused. I'm just starting out and am just trying to learn to fly heli's. I suppose 3d will evenually come into play but for now just learning the basics is where I'm at.What sim would you experienced heli pilots recommend for a person just starting out?

If you are just learning the basics I think any sim will be good for you. AFP is very good and is the cheapest so you might want to look into that. I know that XTR is really good with helis but it costs more. G2 is good also but if you ever want to learn 3D you can pretty much forget about it.

Got my copy today! Man this thing is cool. Dion, you were right. The wind settings are extremely realistic!
I'm having a little problem with the 65" Yak, though. After I calibrate my radio, all the bars are centered, but the Yak requires a lot of up trim to keep it flying level. Is this normal? The other planes don't seem to need near as much, so I was just curious.
I find it a little harder to hover the Yak on AFP because I can't tell that the plane is leaning towards me as easily, so i tend to roll it on its back a lot. Slowing down the sim speed really helped a lot though. I had to drop a lot of the extra scenery and change my color depth to 16 bit to get a decent FPS (75 now) at 1024x768. One day I may try a new video card. I have a GeForce 2MX or something like that. 1.6Ghz, 512MB ram.
It's midnight now and I should have been in bed a long time ago. New toys are hard to put down!

Jo bob , your system specs are good, but that gfx card is a bit old now, with the gforce 4600 Ti we are getting between 280 and 400 fps with smoke on
... You wont regret upgrading you gfx card

75 FPS may be OK now, but after last night, I know I'll be flying two planes at once pretty soon. My son couldn't keep his hands off it, either. So, what you you need to be able to use 2 Tx's at the same time?
Also, I was looking at video cards and found a relativey cheap one based of the ATI 9200 chipset, 256MB for about $100. They say it's faster than the GeForce 5200, which was a little faster than the geForce Ti4600 mentioned earlier, which is definitely faster than my old MX200. Anyone have experience with this type of card?

The more I fly with AFP, the more I like it. I was doing elevators with the 65" Yak and the sim does them EXACTLY the way my real one does. The AFP version flies identical to the real one. Dion, you guys nailed it with this plane.
One thing still puzzles me though is the elevator trim. Using the stock setup on the Yak, it takes quite a bit of up trim to fly level. The other planes don't have this problem. I thought it was the calibration, but I can taxi the plane up close and you can see that there is a lot of up in the elevator. All this isn't a real problem, but switching back and forth between models makes me change the radio trim all the time. Is there a way to fix this in the model instead?

Yes, you can assign planes on your radio for your sim just like you do on you real planes. OR you can try moving the angle of incedence on the h-stab in the aircraft editor, very very slightly.
I think the 80" Edge for AFP is the most accurate of all them. But then again, that's my primary like the 65" Yak is yours.
I know the owner of the 79" Yak says his is the best .....

Thank you!! I came here hoping to save a hundred dollars, or so, by buying the right sim, "for my needs", the first time. I wasn't confused, just lacking "experienced, un-prejudicial, feedback".
After reading through, "two plus", pages of "feedback", I told myself, two more & that's it! The last post, I read, was, "the last post" & it gave me the experienced feedback, I needed, & once again, thank you!
Is it hot in here? Pheeew!!

I guess I'll just set up multiple planes in my radio instead of fiddling with the settings. You guys know a lot more about what makes it fly right than I do! I'm beginning to like the 79" Yak, too. When is the real thing coming out?
As for the realism, I don't know how much more you could do with AFP short of making the monitor spit fuel out at you. I notice that the planes respond exactly like the real ones when I screw up. I really can't wait to get back out to the field and try out what I've learned.

79" Yak will be shipping later this month. We'll be taking orders soon. Just keep an eye on the website or the OMP forum under profiles and fun fly's. Do you have any videos of your 65" Yak anywhere?

Not much of one. I only have the first flight taped. My flying isn't worthy of a video anyway. With no one else that even attempts 3D around to watch and learn from, my progress is slow. But I am getting better.....

Tell us your computer specs and you will get a better answer. If youve got a mobo that supports AGP 2x, 4x or 8x (i doubt its that high, it'd probably have a reasonable onboard if 8x) then there are different suggestions than if your mobo is limited to PCI only. Check www.pricewatch.com for good prices.
