I'm running a laptop with Win 2K, a 16M video card, 1G RAM, 1.2 ghz processor. I get 30-50 fps reported, but the graphics don't "keep up" with the simulation. I installed 1.6.8.6 and the graphics are horrible, even without moving the plane.

Well you have to understand that AFP is not the like the other sims out there. It needs a better video card because of the complexity of the physics to match real life. 32 MB is a better card and it must have 3D capability.
There have been many posts in regards to your request to get a better frame rate. See www.aeroflypro.com/download look in the installation & config forum.
Is your vid card Open GL? Have you installed the patch? Have you tried going to 8 bit color?

I don't want to be rude but your Video card is a dinosaure. You need to
upgrade that one or you won't enjoy your Sim.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, my card supports OpenGL. Before I installed the driver I got less than 1 FPS. I know nothing about coding to the OpenGL interfaces, but it seems that the processor is out-running the video. 30 FPS should be plenty for full motion video (it's certainly enough for video cameras, cinema, and TV) but if the processor is throwing graphic orders at it too fast something has to be ignored. It seems that AFP is a fairly traditional application that just runs as fast as it can, instead of handling 30 iterations per second then leaving the processor idle for the rest of the time. Is there any type of config option to control this? I've turned off clouds, trees, the tracking window, and the data window showing speed etc. I've tried 640x480 and other resolutions, and find that 1024 x 768 gives the same results. When simply starting the program, some of the background isn't even rendered properly, so I suspect that on completion of every simulation cycle the graphic stream is being passed to the video again and it just can't keep up. (Pure speculation ... I'd appreciate comments from a developer of AFP or someone who has coded to OpenGL.)
I agree that the card is a dinosaur! It's what came with the laptop. I guess I need to see if I can get something better. Does anyone have any REAL experience with cards other than SuperSavage IXC in an IBM Thinkpad T23?
Downloads -- as I mentioned, the 1.6.8.6 download is terrible, at least at with 16 bit color. Without the patch, I tried switching to 256 colors (8 bit) but AFP wouldn't even start up. It requires 16 bit color. Have you actually tried this?
