I already have RFG2, and it's OK, but I'm trying to learn 3D, and I've found it near impossible.
Which of the new Sims AFT or XTR is better for 3D training?
I want to hear only from those who have at least TRIED both.
Thanks,
Lee Snover

I can't believe there is no response to this message.
I guess those who have been ragging on XTR have never tried it.
I really would like a good comparison for 3D if one is available.

Lee Snover

The topic has been beatin to death if I can put it that way. It also always ends up in a mud slinging fire ball type of thing. I think that is why we all decided that we agree to disagree. Just go search the forums and read the reviews. You can make the decision for yourself. All I can say is I use AFP and only AFP. My sources that forces my mind in this direction has proven more than reliable on advice so I'm sticking to it. Nough said? It's entirely up to you and I'm not going to participate it another argument over which is better. To all their own.

Lee I do. I've made a statement before that I didn't even know what a harrier was and there were no one I knew of in South africa that could 3D when I started to learn. Just from reading and trying on AFP I was able to harriers upright and sort of inverted with my shocky first flight. By the way my shocky was my first 3D capable plane. AFP has since taught me to do rolling harriers and it's tweaking my fingers at inverted harriers. The sim is definitely not limited nearly as much as I found G2 to be. But like I said to all his own. This is my advice and i'm not directing it to anyone but you. I have not used Reflex before as it is not available in south africa yet, if it will ever be. And well the person I ask for advice on 3D matters has used it and thinks nothing of it compared to AFP. Go look at some of the AFP videos and decide for yourself. If you buy it and feel that I've lied to you then I'm going to tell you you need practice with alot of confidence.

I find real flight nearly impossible to do 3D on.
As soon as you get the plane pointed straight up, the sim, starts doing crazy things like automatically flipping the orientation of the plane.
It's also difficult to get it in position where you can see the ground relative to the plane. I see screen shots with AFP and XTR, that I can not even come close to reproducing in Realflight. For general flying it's great, but it does not act "realistic" at all when you try to do spins and 3D, at least for me.
I'm hoping one of the newer sims would be a big improvement.
THanks,
Lee SNover

Thanks for the info.
Not looking to start a war, just realistic opinions based on real use.
There does not appear to be much real experience with XTR here yet.

Lee,
Did you see post #4 in this thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/The_...2071619/tm.htm
He's got all THREE simulators so is one of the few people in a position to give an honest comparison between RFG2, AFP and XTR.

Yes:
Very good, but did not really give a comparison for 3D.
It appears for now at least that AFP has a great deal of support and is less expensive, so I'm leaning that way.

Lee

I was thinking the same thing on the 3D. Support for AFP? Are you kidding? This place is flooded with it! Just wait till that evil STLPilot dude gets hold of you!!

Oh Lee go visit this place! I think you'll find support to be everywhere.
