I have mine installed on XP....but it wasn't easy.......
I had a really tough time, because I had the OLD version of realflight...then I bought a G2 upgrade disk......so I had to get the OLD version to install on XP first (that was interesting), THEN upgrade to G2. Since I had the old version, with an upgrade, Realflight support was pretty much non-existent.....all the info that they had dealt with installing G2 only. Once I got everything running, installing the add-ons was interesting too.....
It's been 2 years since I installed mine, but I seem to remember having to change the Realflight program to emulate it running in a Windows 95/98 environment.........I did a bunch of searches on the net and came up with this....

I can't get my G2 to install at all. I've tried getting rid of all remnants of G2 from the registry manually, and it still hangs when I try to install.
I can't even get the normal windows 'remove software' process to work.

I tried windows XP,went right back to windows 98se ASAP.I have G2,no problems installing there,BUT,,,In my opinion whoever Great Planes contracted to write the program for them where really not up to snuff on game development.Look at the other current games out there, one word,OUTSTANDING!Where on the other hand take a look at G2,you have to upgrade the thing to get the add ons to work, lotta glitches, and the online play is a TOTAL JOKE!!!!!!!!!Lets just hope that the G3 version has some 'REAL PROGRAMING'and is quite a few steps above G2 which i think is the equivilant of the 'TOMB RAIDER'software for the PC,(JUNK!)I know i will not upgrade to G3 untill i get a chance to try it first.I purchased 2 complete G2 systems,$400,one for me and one for my son,,,,wasted money. For the price Great Planes charged for the G2 they should have done alot more homework on the software end and contracted a 'QUALIFIED'game developer before they released it to the public.

Anyone tried the new XTR simulator from MRC yet? The ad looks like it might blow the doors off the G2. I'd like to try it out but need a faster computer. Software always stays a step ahead of the hardware most people have. [:@]

David C, I mean I came up with running the program in a Windows 95/98 environment.
If you can't install, you've got bigger problems than I had! [
] You need it to install before you can do what I did.

This is not going to be of much help, but I installed G2 on my new Sony Viao with Windows XP (including SP2) and it installed and runs perfectly. The only reason I relpied is to let you know there is hope.

I installed mine on XP home version. Piece of cake! I don't know what the problem would be, but mine worked fine! I do have a good video board and a fast processor.

Works fine for me on XP Home too. Installed G2 and all 5 add-ons with no problems.
There is hope.
Just out of curiosity, for those who are having problems did you upgrade your PC to XP from some older OS or did it come with XP installed? Perhaps there is a difference between the two ... just a thought.

My XP came already installed on my HP machine only a few moths ago, and G2 doesn't want to install, whatever I do.
I reckon there's a flag somewhere in the installation (maybe a file that HP uses to recognise when the proprietary software is being installed, so that it can't be installed on a non- HP machine) which gets in the way somehow.
Oh well, I'll keep trying!

Contact the real flight web site help page and tell them everything in detail. I had the same problems when I upgraded to XP Pro. They responded and stuck by me until it was all fixed, it now works flawlessly.
