Default AFP DELUXE NEED HELP

Got my Aerofly Deluxe. I got the planes flying but only get 7.1 FPS !!! The aircraft fly real slow and the scenery is jerky. I have a HP Pentiun 4 2.6 GHZ 512 RAM . It is supposed to have a NVIDIA/ vidioo card of some sort. Maybe it is a shared card? Will I have to buy a sererate card to get this rig to fly right? Computer is only 6 months old. Will adding a card mess up my warrenty? Any Ideas? Thanks Capt,n PS I did Download a patch...I do not know if it was the right one though for my Windows 2000XP

Find out exactly what video card it has in your device manager.

The card should be 128 MB. Looks like you only have a 32MB card. I've got reports with 64MB cards running over 100 FPS.

I went to the device manager. Seen nothing about NVIDIA. But I did find under install/delete programs. NVIDA Gart Driver and Windows/2000XP Display Driver. They was in from day one. I never took them out. I will have too contact HP I guess. Any Ideas in the meantime though is appreciated. Thanks Capt,n Man I hate flying in slow motion!!!!

captinjohn,

Run System Information utility under Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

Look under Components/Display, it will report quite a bit of info on your display adapter, one of which should be Adapter RAM along with adapter type, drivers, etc.

Should give you the info you need.

John,

I decided to respond to your request for tips to speed up AFPD in the public forum - it may help someone else down the road.

First, I would check the specs on your video adapter as I outlined in my earlier (might actually follow this post) post. I would compare that to the requirements and notes on the IPACS (author of AFPD) website here: http://www.aerofly.com/requirements.html

Scroll down through the whole page because there are good notes at the bottom.

I'm not sure what PC you said you had but you should be able to add a graphics card IF you have an available AGP slot on your motherboard. Some PC's that come with built-in video (sounds like that's what you have) do not add an AGP slot for an add-on card and some do - you have to check your model of PC you have or, email the brand and model and I'll see if I can locate info on the web.

Most (not all) systems with built-in video share the main memory of the computer and therefore causes much more overhead to the system and does not give optimum results for video intensive applications. I would guess this is the case with your system.

BTW, XP (as well as Win2000) support multiple video cards so adding a second card to your system (if you have the AGP slot) will not be a problem.

Hope this helps,
Randy

In device manager select your display adapter, double click on it.

Or do you have the receipt from your HP purchase? If you bought it online you can look it up from HP's website.

You may have to turn off a few graphics options. If you run with smoke turned on it will slow things way down. I have a ati 9600 card with 128m memory and will usually get 45-75 fps (sometime even higher), but if I turn on the smoke it drops down, especially if I try to hover with it on. Maybe only 10-20 fps then.

John,

probably because I've been labeled as a "bad boy" 'round these parts......I'm sure the censor police are having a tight look at anything I do around here. Wouldn't be surprised if my posts don't even make it........

I sell HP comps at work and all the ones we carry have on board Video only there is a few models with low end Nvidia cards but only a few the easy way to check is look at the back of the comp if you are pluging in your video cable in the middel on th left side around hte audio outputs/inputs (USB portd are near there too) and the connection for your monitor cable (VGA) is vertical then its the on board but if its at the down lower where the other slots (slot covers for PCI slots) and the conneciton for your monitor is horizontal then it most likly a add in card

hope that helps

either way all the models I have seen have a AGP slot free so you can go get a decent vid card and put it in and your probs will go away

John,

You can't see my Post #4 & #5 cause I've been labeled as a "bad boy" 'round these parts......I'm sure the censor police are having a tight look at anything I do around here, make sure I don't stir up any trouble. Seems they like to keep things in a tightly controlled environment.

Anyway, I'll go around the problem to try and help ya out quickly. I didn't realize you couldn't see my posts from earlier. It might have helped you out a little sooner.

I've pasted Post #5 and #5 below - just in case they don't make it through the Logic tests used around here.

Take care.

I think it has 3 PCI expansion slots. onboard graphics= UMA/up to 64 MB. Look for more data later. Got to go sleep sleep Capt,n over and out!!!

ahh yess...
you are the newest vitim off:

CRAPPY OEM RIPP OFF COMPUTER! [>:]

dell hp, and a lot of other oem computer companies do this, they go around boasting cpu speed and throw is a pos 4x cd burner and take advantage of the non knowing customer...

basically, you will need to find out if you have an open agp port or not. Some motherboards have the option to run integrated video or extyernal video while other boards limit you to only internal videol....

if you have a agp port then yay, spend about umm 130 and get a raden 9600xt or 180 and get a 9800xt and u will be ready to rock.

John,

You can get a PCI video card that should work. Here's an example from my local Microcenter.

http://microcenter.com/single_produc...uct_id=0171734

You can go up from there......

I haven't used a PCI video card in quite awhile but don't see why they wouldn't work IF you have an available PCI slot.

GENERAL NOTICE ...On post #4and #5 If the posts was something to do with price...it should be no big deal. I see prices on RCU all the time. What a person should think about ...YES it is good to know about what to pay, BUT....the most important factor is what kind of support do you get from where you purchace the item. Like how ot use it and get the most out of it ...ect. So I say placing prices on here should be OK RIGHT? Do we need a POLL?

John,

Not to get off-topic here but I want to clarify (that means I'm about to get off topic for a short while ).

All my posts under my other login ID are being censored (they call it "waiting approval") from RCU - they have nothing to do with prices. I've ruffled some feathers on this board and it's their way of showing who's in control.......no biggie.

I copied the censored posts and reposted them under this ID so you could see them. I figured they may help you out with your problem.

Thanks for the support. it would be intersting to see a poll on posting prices though - especially if the prices were from non-RCU advertising hobby shops. I'm sure ALL of the regular hobbiest on this forum would love to see prices no matter where they're from so they could make up their own mind as to where to take their business.

See ya,
Randy
