I though there were no bugs with g3 !!!!

Thats what they said when it came out.

HMMMM all the returns must have made them change thier thinking. Well that list is a good start but I still will never buy another realflight product. I am an aerofly convert directly because of a poor g3 experience after many years of g2. They " realflight" are lightyears behind.

The release on that patch is any day now - it is in testing.
I would like to see where they ever said there were no bugs in G3.
I did see them claim that they were unaware of the bugs in G3 when released. I do find that very hard to believe.
They never stopped working on G3. It is unlikely that they are only improving the product because of "returns". If you remember, they updated G2 several times as well.
This will be the third G3 update since release.

Jim:

I work for a very large corporation. Our ISD written software isn't "buggy", it just develops "random features"!

Heh-heh-heh! ;-}

Oh! The AFPD purchase has been nixed due to my upcoming "super computer" purchases. I've decided to build an Athlon 64 4000+ with dual 6800 Ultra cards.

Will be using G3 exclusively now, so I'm awaiting bugfixes. Something needs to be done to the excessive snappiness of many planes too, although I haven't seen anything mentioned that would address that issue.

If I had more time to play, I'd be inclined to modify those planes to see if I could improve the above some.

Anyway, the more I use the sim, the more I just fly around the snaps.

Yes, I agree.
It seems that they were concentrating on more crippling issues. I think they decided to pass on physics issues this time around and deal with more obvious bugs like crashing into invisible objects and planes with landing gear set up incorrectly. I'm also happy to see that you can now sit on objects instead of sinking in. Not a terribly important thing to be able to do, but a fun diversion.
If these updates continue (and they claim that they will and at this point I have no reason to doubt), this sim could really shine.

Its funny they fixed the screen resolution problem -I got so tired of changing res at startup that I just let it run at 1600x1200 and now I am used to it!

Pfiddy1:

I did that for a while too, but my monitor will only allow 60 Hz. refresh at that resolution, and the flicker was driving me nuts, so backed-off to 1280X1024. I'm having a tuff-time trying to find a 20 or so inch monitor that will allow that...any suggestions? I may have to dump the video to my HDTVs, with wireless keyboard, mouse, and controller. Hey! The audio would sound killer on my 1,000 watt surround system! When neighbors' dogs start barking, I'll just start WWIII! Excellent!

Jim:

Guess I'll take whatever updates come this way! ;-}

Looks like EXACTLY what I need, Jim. My 19 inch Samsung has .20 dot pitch. Noticed yours has .24. Any issues with the matrix, especially if you've used monitors with tighter pitch?

I'll trade you your "spare" (haha) 6800 for a copy of AFPD! Think about it!

I like it. I checked before purchasing and it was reviewed very favorably. Also, the link I gave you (Dell) seems to be the best price around.

Jim:

I also spied a Dell 20 inch LCD, with 16ms refresh! I need to see one-o'-'dem too! Looks like whatever I get, it's going to hurt the wallet!

Do you have any experience with large LCD monitors?

I'd think gaming would severely tax them. I go nuts just watching some of our HDTV line (20 inch RCA, comes to mind) when the camera pans, (DVD movie) it makes me sick watching the jitter.

I'd bet a CRT monitor would be much better, if refresh over 70 Hz may be had at highest resolution.

I investigated LCD's as well. Some have refresh rates as low as 12ms. However, after extensive research, I found that these claimed refresh rates can mean very little in real world applications, and the consensus was that LCD's are not quite there yet for gaming applications. I was keen on getting one, but sadly concluded that currently CRT's are still the best solution for gaming. I'm not a "gamer". In fact, the RC flight sim is the only thing I have on my PC that one might consider a "game" (I consider it a training tool - although I have a lot of fun in G3 multiplay). However, I figured that if it's not good for gaming, it probably wont be good for G3.

I encourage you to do your own research. Your conclusion may very well be different than mine.

I'll do some more research, and will have to try-before-buy, somehow.

I have several of the 20" Dells and they are decent enough for most apps. I use to have a Samsung213T 21.3" LCD and the IQ was noticeably better. I have switched back to CRT's for gaming however and I am using ViewSonic UltraBrite CRT's.

ViewSonic good stuff. I think CRTs prolly the way to go too. Will keep an eye open for a high-end LCD, though.

BTW, nice multiplayer this eve!

Too bad I missed the multiplay. We went to see "The Aviator" this evening.
