Default Other sims capable of doing 5D?

We can do 5D in G3.

I was curious can we do 5d flying in Reflex or AFPD?

I am going to ask the obvious question. What is 5D? There are only three physical dimensions; height, width, and length. The fourth theoretical dimensions is time but that is only theoretical. I have never heard of a fifth dimension.

I was going to ask the same thing. I thought he could be talking about the variable pitch props I have seen on some electrics that allow it to give reverse thrust. Those guys have a new type of flying happening. I did an RCU search and came up empty handed...so......

What is 5D??

Sean

edit: the term " 5D " gets underlined by the man at RCU. Clicking it brings you too a website with planes.

Would the addtional expense of 18 too cost prohibitive?

The real question is ... why did they skip 4D?

Yes that's I what I was reffering to.
I have heard it was called "5D". I have started doing it w/G3 and wanted to know if it was possible w/the other sims?

It's interesting that you responded to this post a month ago without the same comedic attitude

What? Am I not allowed to be a wise guy? I mean come on it's 11'oclock at nite ... I'm taking the rest of the nite off to BS with the rest of you.

I'm not just a walking AFP support guy ya know. My planes crash just as hard as yours do.

When I fly with others online w/G3 THAT is exactly what we are doing lately and it is terrific!

Question still stands -CAN THIS BE DONE IN ANY OF THE OTHER SIMS??

Not with AFP yet. The concept is very new, only weeks into development.

But I can assure you that it's being worked on.

Does G3 really have variable pitch props on their planes or is there some sort of tweak?

Hmmm...what would one call the "new" flight characteristics and flying in G3? Certainly not VTOL. How about "Bass-ackwards" TOL (BATOL)? Frontal-lobotomy hovering? The "betcha can't do this dippy-flippo"? Heard one pilot hovering nose down remarking, "I'm hangin' by my harness and the chafin' is gettin' out of hand!"

I've got my "stock" card back in my Athlon 64 (I traded in my 6800 GT for a 6800 Ultra PCIe for the new machine) and it doesn't run G3 well at all...it's a pig of a video card (FX-5200). The Ultra won't get here for another week or more, so I'm relegated to harassing flight-sim forum posters...watch out! ;-}

Heres a short video I made in the last 5minutes that shows what i am talking about. This is what we have been doing online w/G3 for some time now and their are others that are alot better at it than me!

Heres a link to a video of someone doing it IRL.

Its as simple as using an electric Helis tail rotor assembly on you prop.

Hmmm...think I'll make one, with the wings in the middle, and two tail sections, one fore and aft. The engine would be a ducted fan type, with adjustable pitch, mounted in the center of the fuselage/wing junction. The plane could fly forward, backward, and with judicious use of opposite rudder and elevator, could do pinwheels in both the vertical and horizontal planes, or anything in between. It could even do weird gyroscopic gyrations, with use of the ailerons while pinwheeling! Man, this is big! Really big!

It could even rock like a see-saw while you taxied on the ground (smooth surface), or spin like a top at will.

Man, I'm gonna be a billionaire! ;-}

peefiddyone can you post the plng3 file for that ultimate. I haven't been able to figure out the reverse pitch.
Thanks, Jim

Sorry not just yet. RCpimpin made it for me (in exchange for a colorscheme) and made me promise not to give it to anyone till the VTOC is over with. He is going to do a reverse thrust routine -he is really good at it!

Peef, I had seen a lot of that stuff going on in G3 Multiplayer sessions. That is exactly the kind of thing that makes Multiplay great - taking a break and watching what everyone else is doing. For me, it adds TREMENDOUSLY to the enjoyment of the sim, and is the main reason I stuck with G3. I'm not sorry I did - G3 still needs some refinement, but I am happy to see that they are being fairly agressive about updating/improving the sim.

By the way, you did a great job flying that Ultimate.

So what's the official term for this new category of aerobatics, 4D or 5D ? I guess 4D would suffice. The extra D in 5D can only mean "destruction" if you know what I mean. LOL !

Actually it's still called 3D, or at least it should.

Helis were the original 3D aircraft because of their capabilities of being able to fly on all points in any direction. Now with the VP electric props planes can do what heli's always could do.

But my question is ... if they are going to call it 5D ... what happened to 4D???

Well it's a welcome addition to the hobby ... but I just grabbed myself a nice hopped up Shogun that can do 4D like mad.

They have had them on gassers for a long time. Not the point of being able to reverse the plane in flight though. Just to make them more efficient.

Glow conversions are going to take a heck of a lot of engineering to do.

The reason why it's so easy with Electrics is that the main shaft can move through the motor. On gas/glow the shaft is connected to a crank inside the motor.

Might as well just get a heli.
