I have had the pleasure of having all three of these software packages on my computer. I also do fly 40%'s - have a sponsorship (and not from any software company/distributer) and have flown most brands including the big three . . . Carden, Comp Arf, Aeroworks. I know Nothing of heli's however so will not even try to talk about them.
Reflex
Positives
1 - It tells you when you log out if your transmitter is still on.
2 - if you pull the throttle and trim all the way back your engine stops.
3 - The sound effects are pretty nice.
4 - It has a torque roll trainer. It will let you work on one axis at a time while it hold the others for you. I don't know if this would help someone to learn or not.
5 - Nice eye candy.
Some mixed features
1 - The flight line bar O.K I understand the idea and it makes sense, but it should be on a toggle switch. And yes I know you can fly around it if you fly far enough away.
2 - I assume it is a feature that if you fly very close to yourself very fast the "virtual head" can't turn fast enough so their is a delay as you turn around.
3 - I assume it is a feature that if you fly even closer to yourself (ouch) you get a reset. Toggle would be nice here to.
Negatives
1 - Most other 3D doesn't not feel right. Harriers and rolling harriers are way off.
2 - Where is a good Extra ?
G3
Positives
1 - Hot key so you can increase / decrease wind speed without going into settings.
2 - lessons from Frank and Jason. I would have liked to play with them more, but ran out of time.
2 - E3D flew well out of the box.
Mixed
1 - Obstacle course for flying field. Yes I know it's editable, but ever field I tried had too much stuff. I didn't want to edit I wanted to fly! I ended up using the slope soaring field just so there was nothing around and turned the wind down
Negatives
1 - Could not download and install patches. would just crash the application.
2 - Could not install addons (not 1,2,3 or four) would crash the application.
3 - That Yak is not Giant Scale.
4 - G2 was better!
AFPD
Positives
1 - Closest to the real thing I have flown.
2 - Turn on wind and turbulence and they are very realistic feeling. Slope and thermals as well.
3 - Balloon Popping! = great torque roll practice.
4 - Plenty of downloads - both planes and fields
5 - Eye candy.
6 - Ability to switch from an interactive 3d environment to a 3d photo = best of both worlds
7 - Very easy graphical interface to modify plane size, shape, weight, etc.
8 - 40% feel like 40% and foamies feel like foamies.
Mixed
1 - the process of "painting" a plane seems complex, however there are plenty of downloads.
2 - why does the stock extra have so much incidence?
Negatives
1 - could not get a Futaba 6A to work with the sim (and it worked perfect with refex and in real life) (both my JR 10X and Airtronics 4 channel worked great, but I didn't want to beat my 10x and the 4 has no duel rates).
2 - Sounds could be better.
3 - The settings for prop - is that 2 blade or three blade? can it be changed? Could spool up time be longer for three blade props?
4 - You can take the 80" Christan Eagle and bring it up to 45 lbs and 60 degrees of elevator and it still doesn't "bite" (snap with a sudden hard pull of elevator.
Personal notes:
1 - People say there is no coupling with AFPD - well sometimes there should be more, but when I apply rudder to the Extra it rolls and tucks (slowly)
2 - People say that you need to increase the sim speed for AFPD, I don't think they are flying a 40%. My Carden 40% Extra flies slower than the sim.
3 - It would be nice if the first two positives from reflex and the first one to G3 could be added to AFPD.
With all this said and done which is still on my system? AFPD and G2!
Which do I fly mostly? AFPD. Hands down the best for 3D.
Rob
P.S. I would like to thank Peter for lending me his Reflex and G3 so I could make an honest comparison.

Breakstuff,, you enter VTOC .. it will be your advantage to do it on AFP since it is so much easier to fly. i know if i was doing a contest i would use it . 0 couple, i can hover almost hands off, will have to JAMB it hard into the blenders though. and turn game speed up to about 120% or those fast flybys seem like they are done at 15 mph..

I'll know what delux is like soon, as soon as STLPilot helps me out on that trial.

Is it true you still have to buy Add On's for G3 like you did for G2? When I switched from G2 to AFP/AFPD, I figured at some point G3 would have free downloads of planes like AFP. But you still have to buy the Add On disks to get the new airframes huh?

Breakstuff just put it in the notes to seller when you checkout.
"30 Day Trial as per Dion on RCU"
You don't really have to worry I'm on these forums everyday and my cell phone number is listed on our website. I'm not really that hard to find!

ok!
well,
i just woke up
i placed my order but it didn't work. you see, i got a special credit card,
which is design only to young people (14-18). its called "Y-Card"
and Pay-Pal doesnt recognize that.
so i still had some time to see posts.
there one thing i don't understand:
Greatplanes is a huge company, with lots of money,
she spent lots of money on developing G3,
and i could see from the testers list many big names.
so how can it be that G3 is that bad, and only one person can recommend it?
today i'll buy it with my father's credit...

Stinky,
I'm sure you'll be happy with AFPD but to answer your question about the opinions here....
The main problem with the opinions about G3 are because it was released too soon. People who tried it early on were disapointed and I assume from RobT's well written mini review he tried it before the last update. It has been a work in progress and has gotten significantly better with each update, I'm very much looking forward to the next one.
As for people's opinions here, unless they have tried all three (with the latest version of G3) than the opinion probably doesn't mean much. It is a lot like asking someone to recomend a doctor, everyone is convinced that they have a great doctor because they only see one and if they didn't think he was great they'd switch. The fact is there are lot's of good doctors and all three sims are good. They have differant good and bad points and contrary to the post about physics being an exact science with the sims, there are built in tradeoffs that make them vary.
I have found many planes to not fly as well as I would like on G3 but then again my Hangar9 Cap snapped like crazy in real life just like the one on the sim. So if all the planes feel great as they seem to do on AFPD does that mean it has "better" physics or do some poor flying tendancies as some models display on G3 mean it has "better" physics? It is just a tradeoff that the designers programed into their sims and a matter of personal preferance.
I think a plane that fly's really easy is better suited to learning 3D on the sim and the reason so many like AFPD for 3D. I saved my Lanier 1/4 scale Cap (before I sold that POS) when it snapped out of a loop because of the experiance I had gained flying G2 which would snap just like the real thing did. I like to use Rick Delton's planes for practicing 3D on G3 because they are tweaked to fly so easy but then move on to the stock set-ups so I can translate what I have learned to the real world.
I'm going over to a friend's house who just got AFPD the other day and maybe I'll sing a whole nother tune after I try it, I can't wait to see what Breakstuff says after he get's his copy.
Dion, you are pretty good about only stating facts and not bashing the other sims but you are biased and maybe spend to much time on non AFPD threads.

Just a reminder this forum and every thread is open to every persons voice. RCU does not put restriction on what posts I can and I cannot respond too just because I am a vendor.
I also follow the RCU guidelines as well when it comes to trolling, now I may push it to the limit, but hey any vendor is welcome to help push his or her product or offer support within the guidelines of RCU. Just because some vendors do it more then others doesn'r really give you the right to tell me what I should say and where I should say it.

Starting to get a little cocky eh.. I bought my AFP from OMP and my YS`s.My opinion can be swayed from the attitude of your posts.. SO keep that in mind. So far its not going to the positive side. just in case you are keeping score[:-]

Sorry Drumbum if you don't like my expressive nature, but I'm not on these posts to win brownie points. I'm just here to state the facts and offer support. If you don't really care for my expressive nature ... sorry, but I was raised to say it like it is, not say it like they want you to say it.

what ever turns you on,, but clarifying above post. I had real high praises of OMP. but gettting big headed will sway people.. I think i remeber talking to you on the phone once. now that i think about it.. but the man guy that usually answers (In OHIO) is a very nice guy not pushy or cocky at all..
but back to the sim.. I told my honest opinion. I have both. Oh i did fail to mention that no one from OMP told me when i bought my AFP that 2 weeks later AFPD was coming out. I spent the extra $75 anyway when trading/upgrading.
