Default AFP & LAPTOP, does it work? Windows gurus, help!

I tried to use my AFP with a DELL Latitude D600 laptop running on Windows 2000, the serial port works OK since I have using Hyperteminal before to connect the serial laptop port to run other applications.

I connected the serial adapter cable/DSC to my XP 783 JR, then I went to controls and not activity whatsoever was observed on the sliding bars as I moved the sticks of the radio.

First of all, does the AFP work on LAPTOPS?
What should I do to make the AFP recognize the transmitter on a LAPTOP?

I have never used AFP, but do know about computers. There is no reason why it won't work on a laptop. It is most likely a configuration issue within AFP where you'll have to tell it what port you have your transmitter plugged into.

Did you install the AFP patch?

I re-installed the AFP, then the expansion pack, then the patch in that order. The Com1 appears to be selected automatically by the AFP during the start up. When I go to controls, then properties , while my TX is connected, all I got is a nice static progressing bars which should be moving as long as I move the sticks of the TX.
Any ideas?

This is what I got when I go to properties to attempt the TX calibration controls. It behaves pretty much like I have not connected at all the serial cable. I suspect that Windows is holding the port for other application. Could any Windows guru suggest anything to do or to verify on my laptop so that AFP can use the serial port?

is your transmitter switch in the off position? if it is in the on position it will recognise the DSC cable as a trainer cord.

Ok This is what I found:
The LAPTOP works OK with JR XP9303 and the DSC cable plus the adapter cord to (single or mono audio to stereo).
I can control and calibrate exactly the same way I do on my PC desktop type.

The Laptop would not work if I connect the DSC cable directly to the JR XP783 which uses the stereo connector (DSC old style). The calibration sliding bars remain static no mater how far I move the sticks, they remain motionless.

I would be able to fly anywhere I go with my laptop!

I hope this helps
