another G-2 problem
A friend has G-2 in the upgrade. He had his computer built basically just to play games like REALFLIGHT, FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2002, ETC.
G-2 won't run. it will freeze his computer up right after loading. He contacted KNIFE EDGE, they told him to do a BUNCH of downloads, He did. It still doesn't work! He has the original REALFLIGHT. I brought everything to my computer and loaded it, It does the same thing. But now my realflight is doing some weird stuff since I did the G-2 load. The planes are doing real radical stuff, like jumping off the runway before take off, and the controls won't CENTER, They jump every once in a while, Like a "TWITCH". I contacted realflight center, I sent them my DXDIAG file. Now they tell me that my computer isn't up to date, That I need downloads to run REALFLIGHT. This is crazy!! It was working beautifully until I loaded My friends G-2 a week ago.
ANY IDEAS???

Hello Desert Ratt,
Check with Greatplanes Technitions and have them walk you through the uninstall and install again.
I remember when I had the original realflight and went through the upgrade's all the way up to G2 upgrade. I started having problems with getting into my Control Pannel to do on line up grades with RealFlight on line.
You might want to ask them about Knife Edge,I don't think they are accosiated with RealFlight anymore.I know way back when when I was having problems I had to get rid of all my knife edge stuff and reinstall G2.Then before I got G2 Interlink I had to send in my RF original and G2 upgrade and got a full version of G2 at no cost.
So check with the RealFlight Tech's and make shure your phone bill is paid up because the phone call is on you.

I'm sure you've thought of this already, but it couldn't hurt to upgrade the driver for the graphics card.
Also, the Mother board bios, and Windows updates can't hurt.

My PC runs on Win 98 and G2 internik runs fun. I think at one time before the G2 interlink came out. RealFlight was having problems with Win. XP
Hopfully RealFlight maybe able to help you.

DAVE,
YES, I'm running an ATI rage pro VIDEO card, and a sound blaster sound card. I have updated all I can. My friend just had his computer made within the last month. He spent about $600.00 on his sound and video cards. And then took it back into the people who built it with realflight and G-2 and asked them to see if they could load it. Same problem. Actually i'm thinking something happened to his G-2 disc. I don't know if these things can become CORRUPT but it's acting that way. And now when flying, an ERROR comes on the screen once in a while. it's a CAN'T read ERROR. It will freeze the computer up so it has to be RESET.
I think he's going to pack it all up and send it to G.P. and have them check it out. Like he says, If it isn't working. It isn't any good, and there's no use having it. He is hoping that after he's spent the money on it that he has, They'll do as they did for NEDYOB and send him the new disc.
I also have a REALFLIGHT DELUXE disc that was my father in laws. It won't load at all. It comes up with a ILLEGAL OPERATION ERROR. But he passed away and we don't have his PASSWORD, So that may be the problem with it.
Well, DESERT MOUSE and I are on our way to the T.O.C.

Ditch the rage pro and go for a Geforce 2, 3, or 4 whenever you can. Trust me.
If you can't, make sure you have the latest vid and sound drivers for your hardware,
the latest directX installed... and that you don't have any "incompatible" hardware or software.
(There's a list on the homepage, along with some other common problems/fixes.)
As for your friend and the "Read Error", depending on which drive is indicated,
sounds like he's either in need of a hard drive, a cdrom drive, or the CD itself.
There are some tests he needs to do before deciding this, though.

If you do go with a G-force card, check the drivers. RFG2 will not work with the last 3 Detonator drivers at all. I think they are the 40.xx ones. Great planes is aware of this. I use the 28.81 drivers and it works great. Its unfortunate though because all my other games are really improved over the old ones but i must have my RF.
