Just thought I might drop a suggestion -

Ever consider using the Microsoft Flight Simulator for flying practice? While it is flying full scale airplanes from the cockpit, it does give the RC modeler a perspective of flying - and what he might be striving to do with a model airplane - and it can be fun!
I have the MS Flt Sim 98 which has a variety of airplanes - from a WWI bipe, Cessna 182, Extra 300, Lear Jet, Boeing 737 to name a few. You can learn to fly a Cessna, or you can take a 737, climb out on a radial to 10K feet, do a split S, and then set the weather to 1000 and 3mi and make an ILS approach back to where you started.
I have a conventional Stick for flying, but I also have two CH Pro flight sticks in an arrangement like an RC Transmitter to allow me to do "RC"aerobatics in the Extra 300.
There are many new versions out and there are many older versions out that are only $20.00 or so, but you do need a good stick with a throttle and trimmable controls.

If you try it, you might like it.

You can of course switch to the tower view to simulate an RC point of view.

Then you can purchase a USB joystick adaptor that allows you to use your transmitter as the input device. (about US$30)

You can also change the rate of the simulator x2 or x4 to give a more realistic response speed.

where would you typically find one of them there usb joystick adapters, and will it work on a esky or walkera type TX ?

I've been using MS Flight Sim since the day it came out on my Commodore 64. Problem is the flight physics get worst every year. As they add more fluff and online play to keep the framerates up it pushes the physics down. It's a great tool to learn how to fly full scale airplanes and to keep fresh on your IFR, but as far as flying RC in tower mode, FMS is better.

i have fs 2004 all i use is the extra from the tower at the antonio-maceo airport in cuba and i dont use the crash so when you hit the ground you get back up.

I´ve got both FS2002 and FS2004, I mainly use 2002 becouse it has better fps and I´ve got more add-ons in it. I wouldn´t say it would be good for RC flying but then again I´ve never tried to move up the simulation speed or anything

and also after starting first in RC sims then going into the MFS´s I feel like the extra is underpowered, can´t even do knife edges
