Default controller won't initialize

Afternoon,
I just got my copy of G2 today. It appeared to load cleanly. When I start the simulator I get two errors:
1. one or more parameters passed to the function are incorrect....... etc. When you acknowledge that one the second one pops up
2. error initializing joystick interface

Any ideas?

How can I check to see if that port is functioning properly?

Thanks all

Welcome to R/C !

I have had my G2 copy since it was released several years ago and have installed it on several computers without the problem you describe.

Depending on your transmitter interface (game port, USB), it sounds like a hardware problem to me (guessing). I would also make sure you are on the latest release by using the 'Realflight Control Panel' and clicking the 'Online Updates' button (if you haven't already).

Also, if the driver loaded correctly, you should be able to use the Windows Game Controller utility to help diagnose the problem. To get to the Game Controller utility (if XP), Click 'Start', then 'Control Panel', then 'Game Controllers'. From the 'Game Controllers' utility, you should see 'Realflight_ControllerW2K'. Seeing it in the list will prove Windows has loaded the driver. This does not mean it loaded it correctly at all, but at least you will have the knowledge that your install did try to load it.

If these few things do not help, you can always call Knife Edge software, or Great Planes to try and fix the problem. Course, all of this advise is dependant on your copy of G2 being registered. If this doesn't help, post back and I will tell you how to check the controller with some other utilities.

Hope this helps some anyway...

Thanks for the info. When I get off duty in the morning I'll give your suggestion a try. I have emailed the company for a solution as well.

I loaded it on a Win98 machine and the controller appears in the list, but on the WinXP it doesn't.

I'll delete the app from the WinXP machine and reload and then see what shows up in the controller list.

I'll try the update stuff on the Win 98 machine in the mean time.

Thanks again.

We just had a house fire today and the guy who lived there was into RC. Poor guy lost from my count 5 planes and 2 helicopters.

Bad day for him

Ok a bit of an update.

I have checked the controller thru windows->control panel ->game controller. both in Win 98 and Win XP.

I can get the calibrate stuff to move in that part. But in the game, specifically in Win98. Nothing. I go thru the calibrate thru RP and it does nothing?
the Win XP machine still gets that unable to initialize controller error.

Really starting to bum out on this. Hoping I didn't just waste an ebay purchase on the software.

who ya !! I downloaded the update from G2 and it works. Fantastic !! My son and I are having a blast.

Thank you all who messaged me with suggestions.

Now here's another quick one. I have 4 disks of additional planes. Do I just run the install on the disks to load the additional planes?
