I checked my frame rate during, but I thought, in general, it was artificially high for my current system. (Athlon 2800 XP 2GHZ 512 mb Ram with a GeForce FX Ti 4200 128mb) The frame was generally between 150 and 200 FPS. The rate did drop to 80fps after a crash and I did experience one glitch. That is pretty high for a system that what I sure would not consider high end. I am not really complaining it is just I wonder what the full version of G3 would run at on my system.

Nemo, great looking models.

I just tried the demo and I get the same frame rate approximately as I get in the full version (same airfield/aircraft) if that helps?

Oh Nemo you wonderful man,I would kiss you if I were not straight
will the add on be a retail upgrade or a free download? And the biggest question, will you make WWI models?!!

By the way, I love the Buck Rogers Starfighter. "Awww, Buck!" I might be one of the few people that miss that show, if not Gil Gerard. Erin Grey was.......hmm........Well, I was 13 or so, need I say more?

Hi David,

They will be free, unfortunately I've no idea when KE will make the update available to the public.

Which WWI models are you after?

Erin Grey... Buck Rogers DVD box set …

regards,

Tony

Hmmm, which WWI planes? I am pretty narrowly focused. Mostly my interest lays with those in service after 1913 and before 1919.

I would like to thank KE and Great Planes for giving us this demo. You have the right idea, but I feel you fell a bit short. The demo has only a trainer and No support for a "transmitter".

I personally LOVE G2 and still am using it. For IMAC practice I still love it. The Extra 330S performs very realistically (on the wing) to my 40% Carden 330S. I have AFPD and have tried Reflex. I feel G2 still does some things better than either (and AFPD is light years ahead of reflex for fixed wing "physics").

I feel that a part of the market your demo needs to be targeted for is people who currently own G2, can fly and want to see how realistic G3 is for aerobatics and 3d. So please add support for older G2 controllers (which I think are just joystick drivers) and add a 3D / aerobatic plane. (and I'm sure a 3D heli wouldn't hurt either)

Now your thinking - If we give them all of that people wouldn't buy the full version they would just use the demo!
Their is a solution to this too. Just have the demo work for 30 days, or 30 hours, or must be restarted after 2 minutes of "flying", or whatever you decide fits. I have seen this in demo software before and it works! I have bought software many times if the demo is great and limits the use to only part of it's capability, but what you are showing me is not enough to make a decision.

Thank you.

I would agree using my G2 controller would tell me tons more "feel" than struggling with a keyboard, but I appreciative that they did release it.

We can look into possibly releasing a new demo with controller/xmtr support. Can't make any promises though.

Hi,
the demo is a cool thing, but I was a bit surprised to find out that G3 obviously does not simulate the ground behavior as the other two great sims do.
When you e.g. roll with the trainer on grass, the only thing you notice is the drag to the wheels. That means the model is just getting slower and feels like sticking in mud. But where is the hopping and boucing when rolling over grass? The other sims give you a much more relaistic feeling of the ground. Is is just in the demo or is that normal in G3?

Greets,
Lego

I was wondering if the demands on the system (video, in particular) are similar for the full version set to high resolution/clouds/wind/3-D as for the demo? I tried the demo on my Dell with 128 mb ATI X-300 series card and it seemed to perform OK. Don't really have anything to compare it to and have no idea how demands compare to typical setups.

sounds funny to me. They "didn't have time" to add tx support...strange...it already had tx support, you "took the time" to take it out. It was taken out so that people dont just sit and play it...but rather buy it, one of the other sims does this too. Its not unheard of to limit a demo, but to do so and pretend like it was just an "oops...no time" deal...once again a shining example of GP's business ethics...

Ross,
The system demands are very similar between the demo and the full version. There are some things that the full version does that require more from your system, but if the demo works well then the full version will too.

Xpress,
No word as of yet.

rjm1982,
Our current tx support requires a G3 interlink to work. To allow the demo to be used with a tx, we would have to implement a different method of allowing users to use their tx without a G3 interlink.

Nemo,

WWI Aircraft that would simply be terrific:

Albatross D. Va
Fokker D. VII
Fokker DR. I
Sopwith Dolphin
Sopwith Camel
Spad XIII

Okay okay.. too many.

How about just the Spad, Camel, and Dreidecker?

if anyone is having a choppy experince i advise using the photofeilds. my comp can not run the other scenery without having a slower frame rate. howver on the photofileds it run flawlessly.

jaafit

I played around a little more with the demo on my system and discovered that I could not get a good framerate. The best I could do is around 20 fps with the adapter (128 mb ATI Radeon X300, PCI Express) set to 16 bit color. A lower screen resolution helped only slightly. If, in fact, the photofields are LESS demanding than the 3-D fields then I don't think that I would be very happy with performance. The computer is new, fast and with lots of RAM so I think that the video is marginal, at best. I just wouldn't feel right about deliberately "dumbing-down" the setup (no shadows, low resolution, no clouds etc) in order to make it work. This card, by the way, is on the list of recommended cards on the Knifeedge website but unless there is a way of greatly enhancing operation, I would not recommend it.

Now I have to decide whether I need to buy a more capable video card or a simulator that is less demanding with respect to video requirements.

Thank you

Ross

Hey Nemo!! What Avetikus said! Course, if Knife edge is just yanking our chain about the "free" addon to import planes the point is moot. After all, why let us import free when it might hurt thier sales of Addons...like the one that is currently being released?

Our current tx support requires a G3 interlink to work. To allow the demo to be used with a tx, we would have to implement a different method of allowing users to use their tx without a G3 interlink.
Interlink looks like just a USB joystick with additional duties of copy-protection dongle (though I haven't tried to analyse the data it sends and its USB ID).
Or is RealFlight reading the channels directly from the Interlink controller (by just getting data packets from a given USB device) and not using Windows joystick? Then it would indeed require some extra work to interface the simulator with a joystick again, like it was done in pre-Interlink G2. This shouldn't require too much work but would allow prospective buyers to get a much better feel of the simulator. But then KE is getting too close to releasing a fully functional sim--some people may be satisfied with flying a single plane/helie for free.

Ross, buy a simulator made by a group of people who put product in front of profit...like anything except for G3....

How about addons that address a specific interest? Like a Warbirds addon, or a 3D addon etc. I hate having to buy all the addons to get the WWI planes that I like.

Or better yet, a pay per plane download system. Like downloading MP3's. .99 per plane that you want to download. I could go for that also.
