I have been using Xplane on a Mac with RCJoy connection to my radio with great views and action from the flight sim. I like it better than G2 on a PC as it actually can mimic the atmospheric conditions that are downloaded from the web at real time. I use the external view rather than the tower view as the plane gets kind of small quickly as it travels away. I have modified an Extra 300L to have 3D flight characteristics of my 37% model with the higher thrust to weight ratios and larger control surfaces. Xplane is the only sim that you now can get rated flight time for your (full scale) pilot's license as the modeling of the flight characteristics are so real. Try it as the sim only costs $34.

as a Unix geek I'm becoming more and more enamored with OS X so I guess I need to be looking into a good flight sim for the non PC (only reason I HAVE windows anymore is for flight sim and gaming). How much does that adaptor cost? and do you know of any other adaptors that would/do work?

I have been using RCJoy's adapter for the USB to trainer cord (to the left of the computer in the image of my original posting) and OS9. I will try it in OSX (Unix) and see if it works. I will get back to you with the results, later....

Hi there.
I just obtain a demo of the X-Plane flight sim. I am running it on a new iMac 17in flat panel. It has very impressive graphics and flight performance for six minutes.
I am curious about using my JR10X with the USB adapter. Can you tell me if you have tried yours with the new OS?

Hello,
I am looking for a flight sim for mac os/9 because i don't want to buy a new/used pc. Does x-plane have a trainer set up? I am still learning to fly and need a sim program. It is alot cheaper than a complete plane. 2 crashes to date. I have a Imac w/os9, 192 mb ram. Would this run okay? I have a tower hobbies tx. Could I use this w/interface? Thanks for any info. Jim

Hi,
I am a MAC person. I wish that we had G2 so bad. I have X-plane and have been using a playstation like input device as it is like our radio control interface. I have about 4-5 hours on x-plane and I can say that it is great but I am not sure when and where the practice I get from it translates to RC flying. Sometimes I get better at x-plane because I am flying RC so much. Not sure if it is the other way around.KrazyAerobat, could you elaborate on this? Are you getting results?
The linux sim looks good but is it also a non-RC sim? I really wish the G2 was for us too, I sent a message to GP and they sent back a form letter "we are not going to bring G2 to mac letter" . Boo!
Does RCjoy work with OSX.2.4 or higher?
Joe

I have and it's a no go. None of them will work not even FMS. I have the USB Joy and flew a Bucker with external views. I did find a PC to run G2 from. It does fine with 300mhz speed and 200 plus ram. Not much harddrive space though.
The USB Joy works well with G2 by the way.

Not even the fastest Macs can run G2 using VirtualPC. The problem is the emulation of the hardware. VPC uses software to make Windows think it is installed on PC hardware. Unfortunately, the software emulators can't duplicate the necessary high end hardware to run advanced 3-D games and sims. G2 even pushes the limits of some current PC hardware.
The software companies will not produce an RC sim for Mac because the profit margin would be extremely small considering the small installed user base.
Most PCs are disposable at this point and PC hardware is very inexpensive. It is easier to build a PC than it would be to get a sim to run on the Mac. Purchase a bare bones system with a substantial video card, 512 MB RAM, and a big hard drive. You'll then be able to run your sim and other "valuable" titles in Windows that aren't available for Mac.

Hi All,
Looks like I had better get a "PC" to run G2.
G2 here in Australia is $aus550.00/600.00.
I see it on the net for less. Can anyone suggest where to buy on Mail order from a Co. that will ship to Australia.

What about a flight sim that has the graphics based on OpenGL. Apple and Macintosh are suppose to both be able to run OpenGL. Aerofly Pro has it graphics based on OpenGL.
