Default G3? Advice?

Howdy All,

I'm looking for a little advice so I'm re-posting this as a new thread instead of staying buried in an older thread.

My wife got me a little heli for Christmas (EF Sabre) and I've already broken a few blades, tail rotor, and a skid. Oh yeah.. I'm hooked. I'm brand new to heli's but have raced buggies in the past, so I'm familiar with most of the tricks that r/c can throw at ya.

After much reading on a bunch of boards I've decided. This weekend I'm going to pick up a copy of G3 and I'm hoping someone could answer a few questions for me -

What add-ons will be necessary to get the best heli experience out of G3?
I've d/l'ed the 140MB heli update, are there any others I should d/l or purchase?

How does the interlink controller handle idle-up and collective? Is there some slider or knob I'm not seeing on the picture of it?
Does the software/interlink controller handle multiple idle-ups? (hover headspeed & 3d headspeed?)

I'm thinking about picking up a JR 6102 or a Fut 7CHP for my future heli purchase - will there be anything special I have to do to be able to use it with G3 concerning electronic mixing or is that modelled on the specific sim-heli? Do they sell cords that attach the radio to the Interlink Controller?

Heh.. so there you have it. A bunch of noob questions. Any information you can give me will help a lot. I've got to travel an hour out of town to get to the closest hobby store with G3, so I want to find out about any additional purchases before I make the trip.

OK, First of all. It is much better for you to run the upgrade through the launcher of G3 itself than to d/l and install it externally from my past knowledge with games.

When you get G3, install it and then register and then run the updater, it will automatically run through and get every update available in order so you don't miss anything. About add-ons, I am not sure, I just got G3 on X-Mas and I to am looking for that answer.

Idle-Up is the top left switch on the Interlink controller, its a 3-way switch. Collective is the same for your real heli, except on the Sabre it is throttle and not collective. Does the same thing though, makes heli go up and down.

For either of the Tx you listed, G3 comes with cables necessary for them. Yes, they do plug into the Interlink controller.

Now, any mistakes I've made, another helpful person will come along, particularly jaafit, and correct me.

Thanks, Jaafit came to the rescue in the older thread and sai about the same things you just did. I appreciate it and have ordered my G3 today.

Now I've got another few questions (yeah, I know.. even before the box arrives)..

When you set up your idle up speeds in the sim, is it with the controller in your hand or do you set it all up with software (text editing or dialog boxes)?

Secondly.. in the G3 demo you can keyboard-control a heli. You tap the button - the rotor tilts and the heli follows. You let go and the whole heli straightens out again, wobbles, and then slowly starts to torque over like regular. I don't think real life helis do that. I mean, the little Sabre just tilts and tries to fling itself against a hard object unless you use cyclic to constantly correct the rotor tilt. (Or constantly over-correct if you're like me.) Which way does the full version of the sim make the heli respond?

And one more thing about gyros. Does a gyro ONLY affect the tail rotor thrust?
