G3 with this setup a waste of time?
Sorry about posting another computer setup question, but I searched and could not find the appropriate info... and I recently got to try the G3 and REALLY would like to be able to have it at home... so....
If I had a 1.8GHz P4, 1G ram, and a visiontek XTASY PCI card with the radeon 9200 3D chip with 256Mb of memory, would this setup run the G3 adequately or would I just be wasting money? The card says its good to go with directx 9 if that info is pertinent...

I think it will work but just barely. I'd first recommend another 256M RAM, then a new video card. To test performance you can download our demo at http://www.realflight.com/free-g3-demo.html

Thanks, but unfortunately 1 gig of ram is all I can install in the machine, and the video card is probably the best I can find since I don't have an agp or a PCI-E slot.
Oh well,,,, guess I'll have to leave the house to fly.

flhyr I think this system of yours would do G3 quite well . Knowing that the radeon 9200 is close to the Geforece 6600 or equavelant this is a good video card with 256 megs of ram which is better. My system is a 1.8 Gig processor P4 with 512 megs of ram, and a Nvidia GeForce fx 5500 with 128 megs of ram and I run g3 pretty good with most settings at medium. your system would probably run G3 with most of the settings at high.

rccrazedman, You think it would work even though I don't have the agp or PCI-E, just a PCI slot? Great! I may just give it a try.
I haven't bought the vid card yet, Do you know of any other vid cards out there that will work with a standard PCI slot that would be better than the 256 MB radeon 9200?

FLHYR- this setup will work well, my PC is 1.4 Ghz, 256Ram, 128MB GeForce 4 Ti 4600. It runs fine, sometimes runs into hangups but work snormally in 50FPS ranges with most settings disabled.

Zelatio, does yours work because its an agp 8X slot?
I only have a PCI (not express).
I'm worried that the pci slot will be so limited in the bandwidth that its going to choke on G3.

Now that you mention it, I am not sure. I believe the 4600 required AGP 8x, so you might have a problem, you might not. Have you tried the demo yet?

When i down load the demo version it loads to 61% than says "Error creating effect propdisc". does this mean my computer wont run the simulator?

I haven't tried the demo yet because I haven't yet bought the card. I am leaning towards the GE forceFX 5500 since in the documentation it says "optimized for DirectX 9.0", whereas the the Radeon 9250 says its directX compatible.... not sure if there is a significant difference.... since they are both still PCI.

Jaafit,
So with a gig of system RAM, and a PCI (not express) GeForce 256 MB FX5500 card, good to go with medium settings?
