Default Old Realflight Upgrading Question

Greetings,

I have a '97 version 1.10.63, I think it is Classic or Deluxe, a very old version of Realflight. Do you think I should scrap it or begin upgrading somehow? I would like to use the USB port because my computer doesn't have the game port input installed. Would a G2 upgrade and a USB Interlink option be the way to go?.... or start from scratch?

Thanks a bunch!

Default Old Realflight Upgrading Question

A buddy of mine recently tried to purchase the G2 upgrade for his Realflight Classic. Both Tower and Knife Edge Software said it was no longer available.

Your only option is to find a used G2 Upgrade (just make absolutely sure the seller transfers the registration to you)......or bite the bullet and purchase a new G2 program with the USB.

Hi Dave, thanks for the speedy reply! A question.... if I purchase the new G2 and USB, is that everything I will need? I still have the old classic version and add ons 2 and 3 from a few years back. Do you think I can use any of that?

Thanks a bunch!

The G2 with the USB interface should be complete.

I don't have the USB version of G2 so I don't know if it will allow your old controller to still work or not.

All of the Add Ons work just fine with G2. I've got #1, #2, and #3.......and hoping to get Add On #4 for Christmas.

Default Controlers

The old realflight controler from Realflight Deluxe works fine with G2. If you have a game port on your sound card.

My computer is recycled from an office and it doesn't have game port in the back at all. I was hoping to use the USB port instead. Does anyone see a problem with that?

Ernie,
A new sound card with a game port might be a cheaper route, unless you want G2.

Default Old Realflight Upgrading Question

If I did it again, I would start from scratch.....I upgraded to G2 from realflight classic and couldn't get it to run right for days, even though my PC was way over the system requirements......I still haven't gotten Add-On's 3 to install....only 1 & 2...and that was a huge pain.

That is making the most sense to me right now too Mike. More questions though....:-)

A video card with a game port? Would this game port be inside the computer or be installed in the game port area on the back of the computer?

If I start all over, should I be considering the G2 or the G2 "lite" version? About what would me total cost be if I purchase a new G2 with USB interlink option. Hopefully this would include a new controller and all....

Thanks a bunch! -- Ernie

Ernie,
I wouldn't worry about the game port.....use the USB like you planned....you won't have to worry about getting the Tx to work...it's plug and play. Make sure your PC is up to snuff with the requirements of G2 also.....I would probably go with the full blown G2 instead of G2 Lite....if you order from Tower Hobbies, I think you can get G2 for about $199, plus you get a $20 gift certificate for your next order.......plus I think you can save an additional $10 or so with a coupon (check their website)
Once I upgraded to G2 it was like a completely new simulator compared to the Classic.......the online multiplayer option is a lot of fun!

Hi Mike, thanks for the great info! For $199, do you know if that includes the USB Interlink option???

Now that sounds like fun Mike. I assume you are using the multiplayer option and have it working for you, right?

I am going to have to come up with the 200 bucks first!

Ernie, yes, I use the multiplayer quite a bit....it's a lot more fun than flying by yourself!

Mike, what seems to be the most fun when "online" flying with others? Combat, racing, sport flying???

Sport flying is fun.....I also have a few buddies that I like to formation fly with. There are multiplayer events, like Limbo, spot landing, etc. Combat is difficult...there are no streamers, and it's amazing how hard it is to mid-air somebody (I've had 2 unintentional mid-airs in real life within a month of each other!)
