I presume you have just upgraded OS from win98 to xp and kept original pc?

If so the reason for slow frame rate etc may be due to you having old DirectX drivers on your pc, get the latest drivers ::HERE::

If not you might need to update your graphics card.

Default FMS & XP

Do the previously listed DirectX upgrades.
Go to your Video Card's manufacturer's site and download and install the latest video drivers for your particular video card.
The builtin drivers in XP are more of Gates' Garbage and don't work properly with sims.
Been there, done that.
Running 950 Duron with 512mb pc133 ram. FMS with RCJOY USB interface and FutabaT4VF. Works fine. My $.o2.
