Ok I know that this had beaten like a dead dog, but I just have to put in my .02 I have been using FMS for around 2 years, purchased the controller cable and such. I just got my copy of G2, and the difference is like night and day. I've been flying R/C for around 10 years, and really didn't have a hard time with FMS planes (actually was a bit too easy). G2 is amazing. The realizm is better than I could have ever expected. The graphics are very well done, and of course wind is a nice feature. G2 is pushing my skills as an R/C pilot much more than FMS ever could. I got my copy (yes, original copy) off Ebay for $100 which included the cable to attach my controller. Excellent product.

I'm glad to hear your positive comments about Real Flight G2. I just purchased the G2 package from Tower Hobbies and waiting for it to arrive. This should be interesting because I know nothing about flying nor anything about airplanes. A friend of mine suggested that I get this program and go for it and after discovering this website and reading some of the comments about G2, I believe I made a good choice. I will try to post my experiences as I go along from a complete novice point of view. Maybe this spring I'll find someone local who might be willing to show me the ropes.
This is my first posting and hopefully I'll get to know some of you in the future.

Welcome aboard Tradesylver!
The G2 software will greatly help you learn to fly quicker, faster, and definatly cheaper! One recommendation I have to you is under the "view" menu, select the option to "look at ground" it is a bit more realistic to me and makes it a bit easier to land. Did your copy come with the controller?

There is a version of the G2 software that comes with a cable that plugs into a real Radio Controlled Transmitter (like mine does) and another version that comes with a controller used just for the comptuer. I'm sure you got the correct version. Please reply back to this thread when you get the software in!.

tmproff,
Received the Real Flight G2 software yesterday. I disabled all norton software and followed the G2 installation directions, the install went perfect and the updates downloaded with no problem. So far so good.
Now to read the introduction and see how the flight instructor works.

I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and mess with the program to fully understand what it can do. I called a friend of mine who recommended the program. He's a fine pilot both on the ground and in the air, too bad he now lives 700 miles away. He explained some of the setup and what some of what the slide switches do and where to set them. I have been able to take off and fly with as many crashes. So landings are not my strong point. When I start the virtual pilot I can see his radio and hear him speak but I don't see the plane he's flying? So something doesn't seem right in the setup or I've messed something up. This might be all related to copies of the pt40 and the airport he had me save. Sounds like I have more reading and playing around to do.
It will be interesting to see if my grades go down during this semester as my interest in this hobby goes up. O'well, you only live once.
Bye for now,
Bob

When running the virtual instructor are you supposed to see him flying his plane while he's talking and demonstrating the moves on the radio? I tried again this morning but I can hear him talking me through the moves but my plane is just sitting in a field with the motor running waiting for me to do something.
