Anybody using the new Phoenix simulator that Horizon is selling now?

Anything to tell?

i got the one with the spektrum transmitter..it's not bad but the adapter that goes in the side goes bad quickly..it's a straight one and i talked to the guy at horizon and he said this is becoming a common problem..there's a new 90 degree one that they are shipping to me[all adapters seem to be on backorder]when it comes in..it's also in a bad place, right where your hand hits it all the time..if i would have known better,i would have gotten the one without trans..the graphics are just fine..no complaints there and the planes and choppers seem to fly about as good as any other sim..i also have realflight g5 and it of course has more features...

With luck, more features will come with new releases. Lots of new applications sort of feel their way along, adding as they go. Special interest software is often developed by small staffs. They add stuff as they have time and see the need for it. They also get suggestions along the way and that often sets their priorities.

Due to the increasing competition in the RC flight sim industry those who do not keep up with consumer expectations and aggressive marketing will suffer. Phoenix has been around since 2006, hardly a new application. If they release a new version of Phoenix it should be keeping up with current trends in sims like hi-res graphics, realistic physics, extreme number of aircraft, user creatable models and multiplayer features. Any sim over $150 that doesn't keep up will probably fade away. The lower priced sims already seem to have captured a niche market (RC heli users for clearview) and have their business model set for operating at that sell point and production volume.

Yeah, I have the same problem with my adapter. I wonder if Horizon will replace them for recent buyers? I think it is a great deal to include a real radio... I like it so far.

They're just a telephone call away. Give 'em a call and find out.

Most companies that plan to stay in business back up their products.

Got one for Christmas and it is working great. The side plug does get in the way of holding. Has anyone tried to hook up a laptop to a plazma tv and fly the sim on TV? I hooked up the laptop with a vga to vga connection but I can't get it to display on the TV. Any ideas?

If the TV has multiple connections, it might require you to direct it to that input before it will even try to output what's coming in on that connection.

I'm having an absolute ball with mine. I reckon I've saved about $30,000 in crashed planes since I bought it. It seems pretty close to the real thing for me and at 1/2 the price of great planes g5 with all updates free, its a good thing.

Forgot to add, when I loaded it , the first thing it done was down load all the updates (extra fields, planes ect) and have them ready for install. One of the fields is in Australia thats unusual for any software of any type to have part of OZ in it.

Make sure your TV is on the VGA input first. From there you can either restart your computer and during the boot up it should recognize your laptop but it may make the TV your only display (laptop display will be black). Or you can go to your display properties and set up the TV as a secondary or slave monitor. This process is different depending on what operating system is on your computer. If you have any other questions PM me your operating system and I'll help you as best as I can.

I'm really disappointed with the number of planes available from Horizon. The only reason I bought Phoenix was because I have over a dozen Parkzone, Hobbyzone and E-flite planes and none are on the Phoenix Sim. Their advertising is very misleading. I have 4 versions of Realflight and there are more Horizon planes available for it than the Horizon version of Phoenix. So far it's a waste of money.

They have all the models for it listed on their website [link=http://www.phoenix-sim.com/models.htm]HERE[/link]

Which ones listed didn't come with it?

The only Parkzone plane is the Corsair. There is a E-flite Dueces Wild and 4-Site. Hobbyzone has zip. I may have missed one or two but you get the picture.

I still don't understand the part about "false advertising". When did they tell you it had more than the listed models?

JRā„¢ Heli, E-fliteā„¢, Bladeā„¢, Hangar 9ā„¢ and ParkZoneā„¢-all the brands you know and love are featured in this Horizon Hobby Exclusive Edition. Don't take our word for it, experience it for yourself

Misleading may be the proper term. I didn't take the time to look at each model offered after I read Horizon Hobby Exclusive Edition. I forgot that to AssUme makes an Ass out of you and me. Get off this discussion.

A few things come to my mind.

1. Horizon just got into the partnership with Phoenix, so more probably will come, they have added 3 Horizon planes in the past few weeks (or more).

2. How do you think the program and flying compares to each other? I am wanting to know how other people feel the planes fly compared to the real life version.

3. How does it compare to RealFlight. I have both the Phoenix and an old real flight, but I have not used the updated versions of real flight.

Thanks

Jon

None of my planes are RTFs so the only sim that had such a wide variety of planes that I could find something even close is FMS with RF G4/3.5 a close second. I mostly do slow flying scale WWI planes so FMS meets most of my needs.

Since you are a WW1 flyer, I assume (please correct me if I am wrong) that you have Phoenix, perhaps you can help me. I want to get into WW1 planes in time, but I have been having a heck of a time landing the Sopwith Camel with out having it do a slow nose over at the end, do you have any recomendations, and does the plane fly similiar to any of your real planes?

Thanks

I don't have Phoenix. I have hRF G4/4.5, AFDP, FS-One and Reflex. They all do reasonable simulations. FMS falls short on this aspect of training.
On the Camel and most nose heavy planes (radial engine w/ short body), the nose over is pretty common and difficult to avoid when learning. In that respect your sim is pretty accurate. If you can't land the sim without a nose over you will probably be replacing blades and cowls on the real ones until you master landings. Short grass is easier on the plane to practice landing on than pavement.

Phoenix problems - help?

How do I get the 3D switch to work again?  It worked for a few minutes (press the "3" key) but it no longer works.  Also, the help file is useless, I just get an image, no text or anything

Yeah, I noticed right away the plug was in an awful place.  I wonder why they never figured that out, surely someone tested it?  ha ha
