Aerofly Pro Interface for USB?

Is any one using Aerofly Pro adapted to a USB connection? Just ordered this sim and from what I read the interface to use my own Tx connects to a nine pin serial plug. I have that on my desktop but would like to use it on my laptop (maybe practice a little at work when the boss isn't around). I'm using a 2.4 gig Compac Presario but it only has 2 USB and no serial. I'd probably need a USB driver from Ikarus I guess. Any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat here with the port problems.

I am getting ready to order a "USB to Serial" adapter cable from Newegg.com, $22.99 with shipping. It comes with the necessary driver for the adapter according to the photos on their site.

Go to their site and do a search for it and you will get to see it.

Found on locally but they wanted $40 for it so found this one at Newegg. Buy all of my computer stuff from the and real good products and service. Usually if I order on Sunday night I have stuff on my doorstep on Wednesday night. They are in CA and I and in Indiana.

Just my $.03 ( used to be .02 but inflation you know)

Prabably, adapter will not work...

Gentlemen,

Before ordering any "USB to Serial" adapters, contact the sim manufacturer and verify that their cables will indeed work with such adapters!

I am almost sure that AFP cable will NOT work with "USB to Serial" adapter. The cable, besides carrying/converting the signal from the transmitter to the PC, also serves as a copy protection device, a "dongle". Such devices are programmed to access the hardware at very low level and may not work with a "virtual" serial port of a USB adapter.

I'll be gald if I'm wrong.
;)

I think you are wrong I have got a usb to serial convertor set to com3 and my AFP interface was found by the software without any trouble. :)

I also use a USB to serial adaptor on my Laptop and it works fine. It did not initially... as the adaptors software set it to com9 as the default. Changing it to com3 fixed the problem.

USB Adapter

I don't want to turn my original question into a debate so I'll just add this:
I contacted Ikarus with my question and promptly received an answer from Mike Fontinini of ikarus-USA. He informed me an adapter will work and recommended one with the manufacturer's drivers included.
Bought a Radio Shack 6 ft. USB to serial cable (part # 26-183) and it works fine.
I was flying the AFP f16 at work and the boss had to give it a try untill it crashed on takeoff, then it was, "turn that off and get back to work".
Thanks all for the input (pro or con). This is how we learn new stuff.

What are the adapters that everyone is using with AFP, aside from the RadioShack one already mentioned?

I need an adapter for the dummy Tx (15 pin to USB). All RadioShack had was a 9-pin to USB which would work with the interface cable. Anyone using a USB adapter for the dummy Tx (Game Commander)???

Is that the one with a 4 position slide switch on it? If so, I already tried that and it didn't work because it doesn't come with any driver software.

I guess basically RadioShack has the right adapter w/o software, or the worng adapter with the software. Anywhere other than RadioShack that anyone got theirs at?

I also downloaded the upgrade on the Ikarus website to supposedly allow the use of USB, but with no luck.

Yeah, 4 position slider. I have it onnumber 2 joystick a. I figured out how to get it working. Had to go into the transmitter menu on realflight and change it from the standard controller to usb using; simulator settings, controller, controller setting. Hope this helps, I just bought it today and it's working now. Good luck

Yes, Aerofly pro will work with Windows XP and a USB port.
I purchased a used Belkin Serial/USB adapter on Ebay for $6.
It worked great on my laptop - Compaq 910, AMD 1.5, Radeon mobility. Being a senior I am very computer challenged!!!!!!!!!!!
It took several weeks of communication with RCU and Ikarus, Germany before I got it operating. When I finally got it installed and working I decided it wasn't worth the effort and sold it!!!!!!!!!!!!
