RE: wich sim
The cutting edge in Simulator graphics is currently held by [link=http://www.reflex-sim.de]Reflex XTR[/link]. You can download two videos and some pics [link=http://www.thgruber.de/xtr/index.html]here[/link].
Here is a pic: http://www.thgruber.de/xtr/xtr2.jpg |
RE: wich sim
Most realistic is AFP in physical flight.
The proof is in the punch. http://home.tiscali.be/flightfreaks/aeroflypro.wmv |
RE: wich sim
I will have to admit, you are right.
That does look real! |
RE: which Sim
I love that afp vid, STLpilot do you happen to know the song name / title used in this vid? i like it alot to fly to :) thx
|
RE: wich sim
Can't get the video to open/play? Whats the trick??
Thanks |
RE: wich sim
Doug, download the latest windows media player from their website, and open the wmv file with it

RE: wich sim
ORIGINAL: STLPilot Most realistic is AFP in physical flight. The proof is in the punch. http://home.tiscali.be/flightfreaks/aeroflypro.wmv Looks like a TKO :D I was looking to get a new simulator and was undecided between G2 and AFP but that clip sold me. Thanks for sharing. Pete |

RE: wich sim
I like Aerofly Pro has the most realistic flight characteristics at this time, when reflex gets to US I will try and make a comparison but until then Aerofly Pro is the best on the market..IMO

RE: wich sim
Jongurley,
I could agree with you on this but I cannot consider a simulator that work only with serial connector... one of the afp's developer has written, in a post on Ikarus' forum, that they don't consider to 'migrate' to a usb connector until new pc will have a serial connector, IMHO this is a very good reason not to buy Afp. Ok, we can compare Afp and Xtr when it will be available but, always IHMO, I think Xtr is more real than Afp. |
RE: wich sim
The image based rendering looks nice on Reflex. Given the pilot stands still, very smart using that :)
|
RE: wich sim
That's funny F14,
I read a post this week from a developer who said the migration to USB was being looked into esp given that laptops typically do not include a serial port. They did not feel it important to meet the USB 2.0 standard, but pretty sure he meant they were still migrating to USB adaptor. I will not argue that XTR looks better, how it performs well that is the trick question eh. I expect it will be good (esp given that the original reflex aside from having aweful graphics had great flight physics) but then you never know till you really get your hands on it. I was less than happy with the included planes in XTR just not my cup of tea, I am sure there will be many many other planes added, but i'd give it 6 months or so before it's out in the states and has decent enough selection of aircraft. For now I am happy enough with AFP, and even with a serial port worked great with my system: XP2000+, Geforce4-ti4200, 512mb 3200 memory, SB live 5.1, 40gig HD. |
RE: wich sim
it's very funny indeed... maybe they want to give us a 'surprise' trying to hide the development! :)
That developer also said that usb 2.0 is not important for Aft but, believe me, as it manager I'm 'freezed' while hearing that there're ->new<- programs that works only with serial connector... would you be still happy if your pc hasn't the serial connector ? |
RE: wich sim
F14 no offense here but, do you not understand english very well?
Developers Post: "hi mike, we will eventually make the step from serial to usb since the serial connection isn't used any more on many desktop machines and laptop's as well. however usb2.0 isn't really necessary for our type of application." and further: "hello, like i stated in my previous posting: we are currently working on a usb solution for aerofly professional. we will post more details on our website as soon as we know a definite release date." USB is being developed, but as the developer said it was not deemed nessesary for their app when they made it. In fact with a little inexpensive adaptor you to can use the interface on a USB port . . . instructions are ironically located in that very same thread. When AFP was developed a serial connector was very viable, I still use my serial port for working with routers also. I would be ok with it if I did not have a serial port on my PC because I could simply buy an adaptor. I had to buy an adaptor for my radio to work with the sim anyhow (G2 and reflex also need the same adaptor to work with a Fut 9C), what's another serial to usb adaptor. I am not trying to flame you because you like reflex . . . it is a good sim; however knocking AFP because it's not USB well that's just silly. There are plenty of reasons to buy XTR instead of AFP; not supporting USB well that's just silly especialy since a developer announced they are working on a USB interface and there is already an adaptor available for the non-serial port folks. |
RE: wich sim
Mupchu,
no offense at all, don't worry... and I don't speak english very well as this is not my mother language. I haven't read that developer's message before (btw, where was it posted ?) but, as I stated before, I'm not interested in adaptor as I'm experienced enough to avoid adaptors because some works and most not, simply! I dont' want to attack Afp, there're no reasons at all, what I say is that I could consider Afp only when it will be usb native... |
RE: wich sim
F14, your English is much better than our Italian. LOL !
|
RE: wich sim
Quote was posted in AFP forums
I dont; blame you for being skidish about adaptor's, but I knew I would have to get one for my Fut 9C, fortunatly Rujal makes a killer adaptor ;-) |
RE: wich sim
thanks Mike! :D
Mupchu, I don't believe too much in adaptors because in my work I use (or I try to use) many kind of adaptors and, believe me, the most of time they doesn't work... ok, maybe in this case the adaptor work fine but what if is not so ? I've talked with a colleague of mine right now and he want to buy Afp with an adaptor, I think I'll use him as a cavy! ;) |
RE: wich sim
Does anyone know when the reflex sim will be out on the US market.....
|
RE: wich sim
Last time I talked to WSN he was saying end of this month, but you can never tell with distributors. If you really want to get it I would PM WSN and ask him.
|
RE: wich sim
I vote AFP. A bit more than CSM and about the same price as truflight but it does have an incredibley real feel to it. well worth it.
that XTR, i like that flip! |
RE: wich sim
Can I use my Futaba Controller for these flight sims? I have a 4 channel T4VF. It has a trainer jack in the back. I don't see it mentioned at AFP's website. I know that you guys were talking about AFP using the serial port, but can I just simply plug in my transmiiter to the computer? I have very good computer knowledge. However, I am new to flying model airplanes. I bought my plane, engine, and radio in a kit at the local hobby store. My plane is an Avistar 40 with an OS Max-40LA engine. It sounds like this sim thing is the way to go for my me and my son. I am 38 and he is 12 years old. We have been flying the electric firebird planes. We want to fly this gas plane, but I don't want to crash it. If you will, Just jump in and give me some advice on this. I will be checking back on this tread throughout this week. Thanks!

RE: wich sim
Hey Garman and welcome ;), check the forums on afp webby and real flight to make sure but I'm 99% you will be fine, futaba is the most supported in the sim world.
AFP or REAL FLIGHT G2 There both very good Sims, i couldn't decide so i got both, and in all fairness i play them both about the same right now, afp does have the edge in the 3d flying department no question there, but real flight offers allot to the newcomer to RC, flying lessons etc built in to the Sim, etc brand name items to tune your planes with engines, pipes etc. I guess for the total newcomer Real flight would hit the spot very well. Also allot of these Sims will come with a TX box, in the bundle or as an extra so you don't have to use your box. All i can suggest is read allot here, check out some vids, and try to see them both in action before you buy. They realy do help with the hand/eye coordination part, which is one of the bigger hurdles in the curve. Jim. |
