Fms Cable Interference !

Hy Guys,

I'd like to see if somebody could help me with one issue.
I've recently created a FMS cable using the instructions of this site (http://www.heliguy.com/nexus/fmsinterface.html). Something really weird is happening.

I am using a WinXP and I installed the PPJoy how they recommend. After I turn my radio(TX) on, one noise starts. it is like a interference between the radio(TX) and my computer built-in speakers.

Has anybody experienced anythink like this and what you did in order to solve the problem ?

I would appreciate one help.

Thanks

Christian

Chris, this fms interface is a basic one and can be glitchy especially if you are using an unshielded cable. Try using cat 5 computer data cable which has ground shield to minimise emf interference.

Rajul (?)

Thanks for you reply. See I am using a Avaya Cat6 cable and I don't know why I am having this problem.
What would you recommend ? Try another cable or try another kind of interface ? Works fine this one but with some noise in my ears. :-)

Check for dry solder joints and poor connector joints. That could also cause glitching.

I did it twice :-( .... First time I thought I could made a mistake, because of the noise, then I decided to rebuild the cable. :-)
Is this noise normal ? I am thinking and buy another cable like that ones used in speakers.

I do not have a picture to show, but try the following:

Go to "Parallel Port Joysticks" under "Control Panel".
Click on "LPT1" under "Configured Joysticks"
Click on "Options"
Ensure all "Runtime Debug Options" are cleared (not ticked)

As far as I can remember, this debug option will give out a beep via your speakers when there is a signal present.

Great Eric,

It has worked perfectly :-))))
I did some tests.. FMS can handle the signals very well but I cannot say the same with Real Flight G2. G2 doesn not detect the signal of the acelerator. This is the only problem I got. Did anybody try to use this kind o cable with G2 ? Will it work or G2 is more exigent than FMS ?

Thanks to everybody for replying my questions..

Ps.: Take a look on the attached picture. The channel 3 has no description.

One thing you can try, is to assign the throttle to analog channel 5 in the PPJoy setup. I remember something about this when I was playing around with the PPJoy software. I am not 100% sure, but I think this problem was only present when using Win98.

FMS Transmitter PC cable

Link to the (simple)PCM project where you find a PIC cable working in XP and 2K,
a number of freeware softwares for transmitter setup, flight recording, a.s.o.
Also a soft to apply trim and expo to a normal game joystick. This makes great
difference in FMS.
