RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
I have XTR, and have for a few weeks. Here is what I have found out:
When I first got it and found out that it uses your own batteries, I was extremely pissed. I thought that I could never fly for real because my transmitter would always be on the charger. I was wrong. I haven't done any real flying yet, but in the 3 weeks I've had it, I have not ONCE recharged the battery. I removed the crystal/module out of my radio, and because that is no longer there, the circuit isn't completed for transmission, and no battery power is used. I started at 10.3 volts and am now at 9.7, no way to tell how many hours I've flown though. However, let me say this: Battery drain while using Reflex is absolutely, positively NO ISSUE. The program reminds you to unplug the transmitter when you exit, so no accidental drain either. Physics/Flying: The post earlier in the thread that if you fly to far away it resets is just completely not true. It resets if you fly over the pitts, and you learn not to do that after a few times. You can fly any other direction for as long as you feel fit. No reset. 3D- While not an expert, I have hovered a few times, but tried many. When I first started playing, I did the exact same as in real life. Fell out most of the time, stuck it a little. I am now much better. (Haven't tested myself for real yet). It also has a torque trainer that I found and am extremely impressed. Makes a joke of G2's training. It gives you the plane right in front of you in a hover, and before you start, you select your level, 1-4. Level 1-You control throttle only, sim takes care of the rest Level 2- Throttle, Rudder Level 3-Throttle Rudder, Elevator Level 4- All channels, no assist That is how I learned to hover the Flip 3D, one I was unable to do before I found the trainer. Now for the negatives: Sound- Sure you can select 2 stroke for 4 stroke, but nothing like G2 Menu's not as fancy/attractive as in G2 Aircraft editing not as easy as G2, again because of the menu's layout When you hit a far away tree, it sometimes may not reset automatically Aircraft editing more a computer thing than modeling, you change number values for a bigger engine, etc instead of selecting a saito 180 Overall great program, was not made with the experience/leadership/big company support live G2, but for a little less than G2, with free downloads etc, a great buy, and like the screenshots show, the graphics are insane. |

RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
Am I missing something here? As I understand it, the Reflex XTR is available with it's own 4 channel commander. See this URL:

RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
No, that company is selling a 4 channel GWS transmitter as a package...
|
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
So is it recommended that I purchase (and use) the Tx that I intend to use with my aircraft instead of going this route?
Thanks! |
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
Not really...
Whatever floats your boat... you could pickup a used transmitter at a swap shop too if you wanted... The nice thing about using the tranny you fly with is the practice you get with the switches, dials, etc... it also helps you learn to program your computer radio and test out mixes in the sim before you go out with your real plane. But certainly a basic 4 channel radio will let you enjoy XTR... |
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
Actually, I'm looking to buy the XTR to learn how to fly helis. I have a couple of old Futaba 6 channels that I used for airplanes several years ago but they're obsolete now. I bought my last one in 1994. I believe it's the 6NLK model. I'm still not sure which sim to buy. [:o]

RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
are the requirements quoted for the computer the minimum or for best quality?
|
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
The requirements quoted are minimum. The more video Ram and the faster the P4 processor, the better. The average guy will be very happy with the minimum requirements, because the graphics are so far above the norm, but like everything else computer related, the faster the better.

RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
So, will the G2 Transmitter work for Reflex XTR?

RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
darn it i only have a pentium 3 933 grrrrrr
|
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
Dan, I'd imagine it would run just fine on a P-3 933 as long as you have a decent video card...
I'll try a test for you and install it on a 1 gig Athlon (similar performance system).. stay tuned... |
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
Does anyone know if XTR will work with the old Futaba 6 channel I mentioned eariler? I believe it's the 6NLK and has a round port on the back. Thanks!
|
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
Pretty sure it will...
You can specify the new 9C connector or Futaba Round... so you should be good to go unless Futaba changes the round "buddy" connector in recent years... |
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
cheers Maudib ill keep a look out.
my video card is a geforce 4 64mb so that should be up to the job. |
RE: Reflex XTR - Give opinions
FYI - I contacted Futaba tech support and they informed me that the trainer port on the older Tx's arent compatible with the newer ones.
