BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Has someone or can someone make this model?
http://www.bvmjets.com/JetKits/KingCat/1.gif http://www.bvmjets.com/JetKits/KingCat/4_yellow_red.gif More information, http://www.bvmjets.com/JetKits/KingCat/kingcat.htm http://www.bvmjets.com/JetKits/KingCat/kc_canopy-1.jpg This might be the finest of all the sport jets. Is there any interest in making one for AFPD the finest of all RC simulators? Joe Kelley[8D] |

Your three-ways are awesome. It makes the hole wireframe modeling much easier. I’ll make a King Cat for aerofly when my time frees-up a little. Please be patient:-)

Thanks TWRC!! THis is the finest sport jet in the industry. It would be a blast to have for AFPD!~).

Thank you Joe for your kind words. I surely leave allot of room for improvement. I’ve only been at the 3D art for a year now. Here’s yet another picture of the progress. The wire frame now needs landing gear and then I can start the TMG and TMD file writing. Only a couple hours left before the first Test flight. Need some sleep now. ZZZZZZZZ

RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
wow thats just awesome! you should write a tutorial on how to do it that good!
do you just follow the lins on the 3View? and then add bits to make it look better? whats your secret? Ian |
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Hi Pat,
That's beautiful[X(]!!! I'm thinking vectoring thrust:D!! |

Thanks Guys
Hi Ian, To answer your questions, I simply create my objects with an alpha channel assigned to the texture @ a setting of 50-60. This makes the object translucent so I can work over a picture, plan, or 3-way drawing. With the King Cat I just set one of the 3-ways Joe provided as the background and worked the wire frame over the drawing. With the translucency I can see the background through the wire frame. I like to have a texture assigned to the object so I can rotate the object occasionally in order to make sure I like what I’m seeing. The wire frame alone gives me little depth or contour comprehension. Use F1 F2 and F3 keys to square up the wire frame on one of your three axes. I attached some images below to illustrate what I’m talking about. I also like to create all my parts separate and then import them later into one model file. The Clone symmetric tool literally cut your time in half. Hey Greg, Thrust vectoring did go through my mind after flying Dietmar Kühn’s Harpoon "Freestyle" for AFPD. Might have to figure out how to configure the TMD file:D |

RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
do you start to work from a cylinder and extrude it in different directions? or do you create all the faces manually?
|
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Pat is this Patrick Libby? Looks realllllly nice!

RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Dion, this is gonna be the best model in a very long time for AFPD. It is a mixture of old and new pattern with turbine smoothness. The smoothest jet aerobatic plane I have ever flown and may ever. This is my very very top of the wish list plane. Pat you are awesome!!

RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Ian, I do use a cylinder for round or compound curved fuselages. Use the shape closest to the part your making. Also handy is you can segment primitive objects before you create them. Click on the button called segment that aperies after selecting the primitive function under the command control box. I found a cool site for making models in Metasequoia. The site is for FMS modeling but the basics of creating shapes is the same. This is an awesome site with great tutorials.
http://kimagure-hikoki.hp.infoseek.co.jp/index_e.html Here's the Metasequoia link. I have used all the versions and recommend the MetasequoiaLE R2.3b-2 version. The least buggy, but keep a zipped back-up of the original version as Metasequoia can corrupt itself once in a great while.Save your projects offend and delete the hold program and unzipped the backup if Metasequoia gets funky:D The first sign that Metasequoia has corrupted is the free select tool will stop working or select only surface faces. http://www.metaseq.net/english/index.html Hi Dion, Ive be away from the computer modeling for a while now. I can only allow myself to spend small amouts of time at it but almost enoy it as much as designing the real thing......Almost:D I started to wright the TMD and TMG files last night. I hope to get back to it tonight. I would also like to spend some time on some nice textures as the textures I have on it now are only the 3-way graphics the Joe provided. Hi Joe, I don't know if it will be the best model for AFPD in a very long time as there is some very nice work out there at this time but I hope people will like the King cat. Later, Pat |

RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Very Cool Greg. Nice Video. The graphic issue is more than likely a conflict between the TMD and TMG files. Did you rename anything Jetcat in the TMD file? Becaue if you did the name jetcat is defined as a sub object of the fuselage so the location has not been defined. Another thing I thought of is if you tried to make the Jetcatobject graphically move in combination with the power source named Turbine you would have to redefine the object Jetcat as a main object in the TMG and create new lines in the TMD file for the Jetcat. I a only guessing on how you did what you did:D
Great Job Pat |
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Hey Greg, I looked at the Harpoon files and it’s now clear to how the thrust vectoring works.
cd JointRingThruster/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, 0.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 1.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.5558, 0.0000, 0.0433, 1 ) cd JointFuselageRing/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, 0.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 1.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.5558, 0.0000, 0.0433, 1 ) cd Ring/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, -0.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 1.0000, -0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.5565, 0.0004, 0.0433, 1 ) cd Thruster/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, 0.0000, -0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( -0.0000, 1.0000, -0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.5565, 0.0004, 0.0433, 1 ) On the “R” lines (-0.5565) need to be moved farther forward. I’ll be back with a ball park coordinate. |
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
(-0.5558) needs to be changed to (-0.4334) in order to locate the Ring just behind the Jetcat's nozzle:D
I recommend making a backup of your present TMD file before making changes to it. It would have saved me many problems in the past:D let me know how it works for you. Pat |
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Thanks very much Pat:D!
I'll tell you how it goes!:) BW! Greg. |
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
Hi Pat,
I can't get it working[:o]! Which values do I need to change? I've changed the TMD to look like this: cd JointRingThruster/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, 0.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 1.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.4334, 0.0000, 0.0433, 1 ) cd JointFuselageRing/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, 0.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 1.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.4334, 0.0000, 0.0433, 1 ) cd Ring/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, -0.0000, 0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 1.0000, -0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.4334, 0.0004, 0.0433, 1 ) cd Thruster/ X = tmvector4r( 1.0000, 0.0000, -0.0000, 0 ) Y = tmvector4r( -0.0000, 1.0000, -0.0000, 0 ) Z = tmvector4r( 0.0000, 0.0000, 1.0000, 0 ) R = tmvector4r( -0.4334, 0.0004, 0.0433, 1 ) |
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
That's odd...?????? your structure looks right. There must be something simple we are not seeing. May I have the TMD and TMG files to look at? [email protected]
What are the results your seeing? Did you modify the object File with a "ring" Object or is aerofly reading the object file from the Harpoon folder. Aerofly will do this if the specific aircraft folder dose not have the object defined in the TMD file aerofly will sometimes look elsewhere for if. I've seen this before, and then you could change the location lines in the Kingcat's TMD file but will make no difference because it's reading the Harpoon's TMD file. You could answer this question by temporarily removing the Harpoon form the aircraft folder and run the Kingcat. if you don't see the "Ring" graphic you know aerofly was reading the Harpoon files looking for the Object "Ring" and thus the TMD file that goes alone with it. It that case I can modify the .suf file and create a new Jetcat.obj file for the King Cat. I'm just throwing out possibilities but would need to see the TMD/TMG files to know for sure what exacly the problem is. I Know we can fix it:D Pat |
RE: BVM KingCat for AFPD?
I'll send it over to you Pat it's the easiest way;)
