RE: FS One by Hangar 9

I have FS 1 V1 and only recently I discovered that there is a V2. At $130 minus a $30 rebate sounded like a good deal but then I did some research and found out that basically it has the same planes I have in V1 with some "modified" models added in. I was really expecting a true new version with all new planes, but that does not seem to be the case, so for now I will save the 100 bucks.

RE: FS One by Hangar 9

If you are satisfied with the way V1 flies the models, that's a good decision, however this phrase isn't entirely correct "basically it has the same planes", while the planes are the same or similar (with some additions) the flying experience is even more realistic. See below for the improvements in V2

Better physics equals better training.

Just my two cents,

Scott

From the FAQ page : http://www.fsone.com/support.php

I have version 1. What's new with FS One version 2?
Bonus Rebate – $30 back for owners of FS One version 1, or $20 for owners of competitive products. Rebate good through December 31, 2011.

High-Resolution Interface – Never before has an RC simulator had this much resolution between your transmitter sticks and computer. Version 2 comes with a new USB interface that has four times more resolution than before (10 bits, 1024 counts). It's as smooth and accurate as your real transmitter. Free downloadable upgrade to 2048 resolution.

Better Aerodynamics – Two years of research has improved FS One's already best-of-breed aerodynamics. You'll notice this most in 3D maneuvers, but you'll feel the difference even in normal flying.

Free Aircraft – Many high-quality aircraft are in the works. The new version 2 supports these free downloads from www.fsone.com. Among the first new airplanes are the Extra 260 35%-scale and Cap 232 27%-scale from Hangar 9 and Four-Star 60 from SIG.

Aircraft – Version 2 has over 40 stock aircraft. This new version bundles in the version 1 Hangar Pack for free. No more Hangar Packs to buy! Leader of the pack – The Scaling Wizard™ by FS One turns any airplane into any size, physics included automatically. The number of airplanes is virtually limitless.

Panos and 3D Flying Sites – FS One has both. Fly on board or from the ground, in a 3D world or with photorealistic graphics. Free panos along with free airplanes.

Version 1 has reached 'End of Life' – No more updates or aircraft. All our efforts are now in version 2 and beyond.

Super Easy Transmitter Setup – A Calibration Wizard automatically assigns channels to 4- to 8-channel transmitters. No more long transmitter FAQs.

No TacCon! – With the best aerophysics, we've made it easy to get the best out of your simulator. Use your own transmitter, and what you feel in the sticks, you'll feel at the field.

Fast Install from DVD – Installation is four times faster, and needs no CD-swapping.

Updated – Version 2 bundles in all updates from version 1.

Regular Updates – Downloadable V2 updates for new features and aircraft.
Current version: 2.0.7 (r958) .

Too real to be a game!™ is our focus and our commitment to you.

Thanks for the feedback, but I had already gone through the list of improvements. Even when I am not 100% satisfied with the way V1 flies, I don't see anything on that list that can, in my view, justify spending $100.

May I ask what is required  to establish that you already own FS1 version 1.

I bought the boxed software used off of ebay long time ago.

Thanks.

The FAQ page on FSONE.com explains that you need this information or stuff:

Can I get an Upgrade Rebate if I upgrade from version 1 to version 2?
Yes, if you are upgrading from version 1 to version 2, we do offer an Upgrade Rebate.

Owners of FS One version 1 can receive a $30 rebate when they upgrade to version 2. Offer good only in the USA and Canada.

To receive your rebate, purchase FS One version 2 at the regular price and complete the rebate form included in the box at time of purchase.

Your rebate form must be accompanied by the original FS One version 1 sticker from your original version 1 USB Interface, include your FS One V1 CD key, and the date you purchased FS One version 1 (on or about).

Rebate good through December 31, 2011.

To preview the rebate form, click here.

As I said, I have a legitimate copy of FSONe with all the contents that were boxed in the set.
Ido not understand the FAQ rebate procedure.
Apparently no picture of the "sticker" which is required for the rebate is shown.

I use FSONE, using the tracon.

I have no idea which piecethe "USB" interface is.
I see stickers here and there, none look removable, but then I don'tknowwhere to look.
A picture worth 1000 words, the rebate instructions has no pictures.

Our only mailbox is a po box.
There IS a statement that "requests from PO boxes will not be honored".
And another for anyone with onlya pobox for mail receptionto write your residenceaddress on the form.
There is NOT a statemnet saying that after writing your residence in the box that the rebate is now valid or if it remains invalid.

I am NOT complaining!
Its a fun maze!

We will honor a rebate to a PO Box mailing address. But, yes, we require a physical address to be listed. Don't ask me why ... ask all these people who learn to write this kind of rebate-form stuff!
On the faq we have a link to a sample rebate form, and this includes the sticker that you are asking about. It's the sticker on the black box on the cable. That is the interface that makes the TacCon talk to the computer.

V2 has all the promises of expansions and updates. The same was said for the original.

Version 1 has reached 'End of Life' – No more updates or aircraft. All our efforts are now in version 2 and beyond.

One expansion pack. That's it. No thanks, I won't buy again.

RE: FS One by Hangar 9

The difference, I think, for me, is that the downloads for V2 are free, if I'm not mistaken there have been two since v2's release. (and also a number of variation of sizes of each model). The fellas who own FSOne have other day jobs, so they don't dedicate their time to developing new aircraft. That said though, the physics are great and others buy the software just for that reason alone. (each new model takes quite a bit to develop - it's a downside to having great physics).

I think for them, the number of new plans isn't as important as the integrity of flight replication from model to real plan.

You may have other interests and that't totally okay. I think you should use whatever software/simulator that works best for you.

I just got FSone V2 with the JR/Spectrum interface.

It works fine with my old JR X-347 transmitter, but will
not work with my JR 12X transmitter. The transmitter calibration
does not work with the 12X.

I will guess that you have the JR 12X 2.4 .... just like mine. And to my surprise the 12X 2.4 does not push a PPMsignal out the trainer port. Kinda hard to believe for the price I paid, but true. To get the PPMsignal you need the 12X FMversion. If you have that version, then you need to set up the Tx to push PPMout the trainer port. Then it will work.
