Looking for a flight simulator
 

Hello,
I am looking for a flight simulator that I can maybe teach my kids the feel for the sticks. I know there is the real flight out there but it is pricey for a guy like me. I saw on ebay where they have Dynam 6 ch simulators for sale around $35 shipped. Has anyone tried one of these and would like to share an opinon on it with me. I do fly R/C but would like to have something the kids can play with and maybe even teach me a trick or two to try. I don't want to blow $35 for a POS . If anyone has one and would like to share information about it with me I would welcome all information. I appreciate and thank you for any advice in advance. Thanks

you can get FMS for free.lol and run down to the wal mart and buy a play station like joy stick for $10 t0 $$20
and remove the spring from the throttle. FMS is free when you purchase Easy sky...you're buying the TX, not FMS.
Then download thousands of models and make you're own photolistic sceneries. it takes a little bit of reserch and
some PC comprehension..The last i check there were 2053 equirectangular / 360x180 panoramic photos on Flickr you can
down load for free. it tkaes a little bit of know, by the time you invest doing all of that..you spent more than $30
on man hours.lol FMS is capiable of everything, but you gotta dial it in, there not a quick edit menu.

Or if you know what you're doing., you can buy a $0.05 resistor download smart pro get a mono headphone jack
and use you own TX.


You can try Clearview or Preflight you can transfer FMS models into clearview and bascially make scernies up the vazoo
Using those equiretqngular photos. Via skybox or Sphere in Preflight and clearview ( Quicktime and Java) direct9 stuff.lol
There both around $40. They come preloaded with photlistic sceneries and the models has moveable cntl surfaces,
retracts, smokes and most important a quick edit menu.lol And you won't have problems running them in Vista.
There's also realitycraft around $40
Under the $50 price range

They all have free trial version just like G3..but the trick is the TX

Ed-O FMS is free when you purchase Easy sky...you're buying the TX, not FMS.
What is Easy Sky and where can IT purchased??

I'm interested in a good RC Flight Simulator. I already fly Gas and Electric, but want to start flying 3d. Any suggestions.
I defintely want to us my 9 channel Futaba radio since that is what I fly with...

Don't get mad at me for asking, but would be willing to buy a burned version and a cable necessary for my Futaba if anyone wants to make a few extra bucks.

Thanks, I have the HBKII stock TX. It looks kind of like a round 4 pin audio jack, it's marked "TRAINER". I'm kinda old an low tech but thought RC helis and planes looked like something to fill in the time. My email is [email protected] if you need an address, postage or what ever.

Can anyone help? I am looking specificly for a flight sim that has multi engine engine aircraft. In addition, one that's programable to simulate engine out situations. I am well on the path to building a couple of very large scale multy engine warbirds and although I have a twin engine practice model that's had its share of engine out situations, one can never have enough practice.

Phoenix (www.phoenix-sim.com) has several multi-engine models, and the new 1.04 version has a failures panel which lets you simulate engine failures - either a random one or both.

Hi, I've been looking at flight sims too. FMS has some free down loads, you just need a cable to connect your trainer jack to your computer. Maybe there is a multi-engine sim download there.
My local hobby shop was no help in finding one, they were anxious to sell me a $199 REAL FLIGHT Simulator. The software then goes for $49.95 a pop depending what you want to learn to fly. on a very fixed income so that's a bit pricey for me. I've been looking on line but did get to use a friends Dynam 6CH sim with a USB connector. It's OKAY and has a couple of helis and multi-engine fixed wing AC. I didn't fool with them, just the helis, so I can't say what they are like. The helis were easier to fly than a real RC heli.

Check out RF3.5's advertising. They list all the multi's in the sim and in each addon. It also has a number of options for simulating RC problems, some of which are engine out.

I, too, am looking for a flight sim that's fairly inexpensive. One of my friends suggested that I just get E-sky's flight sim. He said that it's only $19.99 right now on sale. I couldn't really find anything regarding their software other than the pictures on the ad. You'd think they'd have some kind of little video clip or something so you could see how it looks. In the box you get a basic 4 ch controller with USB interface and the software. From what I've read you can download a whole slew of planes off the internet. I tried to do a search to try and find more info on this sim but am coming up empty handed. Sure, I would like to get a much nicer sim but for my budget I think this might be the way to go. Has anyone ever used this sim?

I used a friend's Dynam 6CH sim for planes and helis. It's seemed to be okay. It comes with a USB connected 6CH TX and a poorly written instruction page plus little video disc to down load about a dozen FMS planes and 3 helis. You can also down load directly from FMS. It's practice and seems to be a little easier to fly the sims than the real thing. I might get one. I'm still trying by trial and error to get the helis up in the virtual air.

Hello folks,

Im a beginner and after crashing several RTF planes, I decided to invest in a flight simulator Real Flight for 200 bucks. I must say this program simulates many different types of planes, helis, wind and terrain. I now see programs advertisted for $19. Is the Real Flight sim that much better?

I don't have any experience with Real Flight because it's Real Expensive! I did fool with it for about 5 minutes at the local hobby shop but couldn't get a heli set up to fly. The hobby shop folks swear by it, but then for $199.99 who wouldn't. I have tried some of the cheapo E Sky 4 CH and Dynam 6 CH sims with a USB connector to your PC. They seem to be okay and I like the price, under $35 with tax, shipping and insurance. I'm still looking befor I buy though. There are so many choices!

Probably the cheap sim you saw was FMS. I have tried FMS ($0 to $30 depending on whether controller is included), ClearView ($30), RealFlight G3.5 ($200) and Phoenix RC ($160). The latter two are MUCH better than the first two. I like Phoenix better because I think the helis fly more realistically, but RealFlight is very good as well, and has more bells and whistles. Compared to the cheap/free sims, RealFlight and Phoenix have much more accurate flight behavior for planes and especially helis, much nicer graphics, and a lot more features, such as online multiplayer and much easier model editing. So yes, I think if you tried them both it would be obvious why RealFlight costs a lot more; it's worth a lot more.

It's a little like comparing a BMW to a Yugo though. The BMW isn't a ripoff since it's obviously a much nicer car, but if a Yugo is good enough for you then you'd still be wasting your money to buy a BMW. I think the better sims are worth the extra money because they simulate much more accurately, but if money's tight FMS or ClearView are still a lot better than not using a sim at all.

Which Simulator will allow you to purchase it without the need for their transmitter? I would prefer to just use my own...
Do they allow for direct connection between my Futaba and the computer? Do you need the power on?

All the sims will allow you to use your own transmitter, even the ones which come with their own controller. All of the high end sims use some sort of hardware dongle which is required to be connected to the computer. In RealFlight the dongle is builtin to their controller, so to use your own controller you plug it into the RealFlight controller. The lower end sims like ClearView and FMS don't use dongles, so you just use a generic cable from your transmitter to the computer.

That what I was thinking... I would rather not have to use their controller to use mine. I would rather go directly into the computer...
What about Pacific. It appears to be one of the best..
Also, does my receiver have to be on when using?

I can see that having to plug your transmitter into their controller creates a little more clutter on your desk; I don't think it makes any difference other than that. In any case though, I like Phoenix RC better than RealFlight anyway, and Phoenix just requires you to use their special cable to connect your transmitter to the computer.

Pacific? I haven't heard of a sim with that name.

You don't need a receiver to use a simulator. Your transmitter is connected to the computer, so the computer is effectively the receiver. In fact many transmitters will automatically stop transmitting any radio signal if something is plugged into their trainer port, which is nice because your transmitter batteries will last a lot longer while you're flying your sim.

My DX7 does not need to have the power switch turned on. It just turns itself on in trainer mode (i.e. no RF transmission) when you plug a trainer/sim cord into the trainer port. I believe the Futaba transmitters work the same way. So even though the transmitter batteries last a lot longer because no radio transmission is occurring, the batteries will still eventually wear down, and you need to remember to unplug the trainer cord from your transmitter when you're done playing. The nice thing about the dedicated sim controllers like the RealFlight one are that they're powered off the USB port. Personally I'd rather use my real transmitter anyway though, because the sim controllers just feel too different from my transmitter. Others feel differently though and like the idea of not wearing out their expensive transmitter while practicing on the sim.

I agree with you on the quality issue. I'm a disabled vet so I don't have much cash to play with. Yeah, I'd like to be able to spend several hundred on a heli and another few hundred on sims and CNC parts. However, I think my wife would kill me or at least be a little miffed, so I go the economical route. It may not be smart but I'm still breathing!
I have since been able to get back to the hobby shop and play with the Real Flight. It is very, very good! But still too pricey for me! I am going to find what best suits my situation before I dive in, who knows mybe it will be the Real Flight?
