Default Methanol vendor in NE Illinois, SE Wisconsin?

I think this is the year I start mixing my own go-juice. Does anyone know of a methanol source around the northeast IL / southeast WI border? Say, Waukegan or Kenosha.

Thanks!

VP Racing fuels sells methanol to hot rod shops. Contact the VP Racing Fuels distributor for your area. They will tell you who the dealer is that services your area.

Im in the same hunt. What I've found so far Great Lakes Drag raceway has it advertised for $48.00 per 5 gallon pail - which is too expensive. Other posts are reporting it should be $2 - $3 per gallon. Dan Owings [email protected] has it in 55 gallon drums in Rockford, I don't know his price. Im sure there are chemical suppliers in Metro Chicago Area that have this stuff. I will report any sources found.

Chicago Connection Speed Shop is at 6701 West Archer Ave, which is just west of Midway Airport on 55th Street & Normandie. 773 229 0655. They have VP Racing fuel, product M1 at $40 in a 5 gal pail. $8 per gallon of methanol will require $3 in oil for 20% oil (buy from SIG mgf on line) & $3 in nitro at 5% (buy 1 gallon from Torco on line) Seems to be same $$ as commercial fuel when adding costs & labor. Grainger lists methanol at huge prices. Guys have reported $3 per gallon for methanol, which may be connected to race car guys buying it by the drums & allowing rc flyers to purchase it in smaller quantities. Im thinking some industrial chem suppliers will have bargain methanol. Will report any better pricing.

Yep my numbers are telling me that I might as well order a 4-gal case from Sig and just be done with it.

I get methanol from a gas station about 20 miles from my house for around $2.75 a gallon.
Try using this link: http://oil-and-gas.regionaldirectory.us/illinois.htm to find a methanol retailer nearby.

Some of the companies I found on that site don't list methanol as one of the fuels they sell, so sending an email or making a call might get you better information.

After a day on the web and on the phone, I give up. Easier to just order a case from Sig.

All good. There's worse things than spending a few bucks on a case of Sig fuel

Look for a local petroleum business that also sells/delivers LP. They use methanol when refurbishing LP tanks to remove moisture. Most/some of these also sell oil and deliver gasoline and diesel fuel to commercial and farm accounts.

Come north of Milwaukee 100 miles and we have numerous resources. I can by methanol from 3 race sources in a 1/2 hr radius. I have never paid more than $3 a gallon. We have a lot of dirt late models and go carts that race in my area. I can buy straight from the pump.

I hike a lot of weekends in the Kettle Moraine North Unit. Next time I'm going to be up that way, I will shoot you a PM and maybe we ca coordinate!

Do I need to bring a pail of some sort, or can I simply buy a 5-gal bucket for a reasonable price?

I will more than likely use Techniplate for oil, and mix for a 10% nitro content.

...or, I will just order from SIG, or even drive to Toledo this spring and buy fuel there
