Default methanol vs gas

I recently got a new plane with a Brison/sachs 5.8 on it. After getting the plane I was told that it had been converted to glow (methanol). He recommended running methanol and 0% nitro and 5% oil? Some local people have told me that this setup is NOWHERE near as dependable as a regular gas setup, as it is a racing setup. It is made to start at a very high idle, and fly WOT to a deadstick landing. They said the idle will be very rough and it probably will load up easily. I just want to sport fly?! What do I do...convert back to gas.....I have a feeling that won't be cheap...or should I sell this engine and go get a G-62?

Thanks
Jess

Default RE: methanol vs gas

If it is still spark ignition it should work on gas. I have read that they enlarge the fuel passages in the carb for running on methanol so you may need to change the carb.
check out the engine conversions forum they mention this conversion a number of times or try post your question there. Those guys are very helpful
