Default Bringing fuel to the field

OK,

So it seems I really have problems bringing a whole gallon of fuel to the field, my bag isn't big enough.

Just what can I use to store fuel? I am about to finish the bottle of L'Oreal shampoo, it is 500ml, it looks like it could store my fuel, but I am not sure. And would 500ml be enough for a OS 50 FX? Assuming the tank that I use is regular sized.

Why is it so difficult to bring a gallon with you? Shampo bottle will get you maybe 2 1/2 flights. maybe fins an old half gallon container of milk?

And why is it that I have to walk a kilometer before I get to the field? And why is the space in the bag limited? And why does nobody here fly 40% Extras? And why... oh why.

I used a battery water bottle, it stores about a litre. I can fly the whole day on it, with about half the bottle still filled.

Easy.

I think its foolish to cart around an entire gallon of fuel. I mean when have you ever needed that much fuel in one day.
So my solution was simple. I took a 50oz fuel tank and mounted it in a plastic toolbox from walmart. Hooked my fuel pump up to it, installed my power panel flight battery ALL inside. This toolbox serves as my flight box. Plenty of storage inside.
I get 4 flights out of the 50 oz tank. perfect for my typical day of flying. and with out ALL the weight and clunkyness of carting around an entire gallon of fuel. If you want to fly more I just keep the gallon of fuel in my car to refill the 50 oz tank.

Ill post a pic later that shows my setup.

Rubbermaid makes various sizes of containers that hold fuel very well. The top has an opening that a Dubro fuel tank stopper will fit. It can be p;umbed up to dispense fuel; 1 quart-2quart Etc?

Do not use LDPE plastics (milk jugs) or PET (clear plastic bottles), What ever you use, try to make sure its HDPE plastic or equivalant.

Hi guys,

I have found a new bottle, it's another battery water bottle. Is that useable? I believe it is from Shell. My current bottle allows air to go in [X(]!

I understand that bottles labeled PET are not suitable for glow fuel, but how about bottles labeled PETE? Or is this the same substance?

why not just use the bottle the fuel comes in ? Not to mention you can buy fuel in little or big bottles. I first used the slimmer bottle and realized it was a waste of time and probably money. Had to keep buying fuel every other week.

Because I have to park a long distance from the field when the access road is muddy. I carry my plane and wear a backpack containing the bare essentials from my field box. I buy fuel by the gallon but I don't want to carry a gallon when I only need a pint. A flat 'Listerine' bottle fits well in the backpack. This is the PETE material.

Over here, nobody sells fuel in anything smaller than a gallon. That's why I have to find alternatives to that. Or else, those cute mini Powermaster bottles look like a good one time investment!
