Default 30% heli fuel in 4-stroke motors ?

i just read on horizon hobbies website that there staff regularly uses heli fuel in the saito motors, for better and smoother idle, cooler engine temps and noticible power boost. i was wondering if it would hurt magnum 61 4-stroke ? i currently run a 12-6 master asirscrew tied to a sig senior trainer 80"wingspan, any tips to get a litlle more boost out of this motor would help, it seems pretty slugish. i hardly notice any power boost from mid to full throttle....[]

Not sure about your Magnum, but my Saito 100 sure likes it.

Eric, have you ever done an actual comparison between, say, 10% nitro, 20% and 30%, I keep toying with the idea of doing that. I would have to get some 30%, I have 10%, 15%, and 20%, the 10 and 15% are both WildCat Premium with 16% 80/20 lube. I would need four jugs all the same, lube wise. To make it more interesting I could use my American Hobby Products torque reaction dynamometer. My Saito .82 would be the best choice to test, it is just under the .91 engine max size for the dynamometer and yet large enough to be in its most accurate range.

hey eric , i bought saito 91 last summer(new) is there enough power difference between it and the 100, to justify selling it and going for the saito 100 or 120, im thinking of getting the funtanna 60.

Hobbsy,

When I got my Saito I already had a good supply of heli fuel and I have not tried anything else, so I cannot give you a comparison. In a recent post in the glow engines forum I reported that my Saito 100 was turning an APC 16x4W @9800 rpm. There were some replies that doubted the accuracy of this reading. To be sure, I borrowed a couple of tachs this weekend and confirmed it is turning that fast. A comparison test would be interesting, but I'm much too lazy.

SigMan,

I have never owned a Saito 91, so what I know about the difference in the two is from reading posts here on RCU. Some claim the 100 is almost as strong as the 120, and others say the difference between the 91 and 100 is marginal. Since I own a 100 I'm hoping the "almost as strong as the 120" group is correct.

Just keep in mind guys that if you try a higher nitro % fuel, you're not going to have much luck dopping back down to a lower %. Unless the tolerances on airplane engines are that much more forgiving, if you try to decrease nitro on a r/c car engine it will run poorly because it broke itself in to the higher % fuel.
