Hello all.

I've been told of a local chemist warehouse where they sell castor oil. What kind of oil am i expecting to buy for mixing fuel for our model engines? Is pharmacy castor good, or what other type of castor must i ask for?

You should be able to get Castrol M in Europe because Castrol started in England. BTW, the Castrol name comes from CASToR OiL which is what the company started with about 100 years ago.

Medicinal castor isn't recommended because it may have additives in it like sugar, in fact the Merco instructions specifically state not to use medicinal castor. Any castor labelled as AA is fine because that means it's only made by pressing the oil and doesn't have the extra step of chemical extraction which leaves traces of those chemicals that cause the white flakes sometimes seen in certain fuels.

Never heard about sugar in Medicinal castor, in our land are sugar not added in Medicinal castor. Maybe in other land are sugar added for taste..

Gee, I wish the medicinal Castor Oil I took as a kid had sugar in it. It didn't and tasted ugh. I guess not one gets dose with that stuff any more. Revealing may age, eh.

Don't ask for castor full stop.

Castor oil is bad for humans and also bad for model engines ! Especially 4 strokes. For some reason the older generation of modellers seem reluctant to ditch castor in favour of modern ,clean burning synthetics.

Living in europe, you should be able to get hold of a fuel containing Aerosave fully synthetic oil. Manufactured by the Fuchs oil Co in Germany

I've been using this fuel for 5 years now in everything from an O.S. 10LA to a Laser 240 V Twin. All my engines are spotless inside and out. None of them look like they have been "dipped in toffee".
I don't use any afterun oil. I just run the engine dry at the end of the days flying. The Aerosave oil has the best anti-corrosion properties of any oil. After the winter lay off all my engines are free and not locked solid with castor goo.

Pharmacy castor is usually very expensive atleast it is here and not needed for our model engines.
All you need is first pressing castor oil without any additives, maybe second pressing also is good enough. Not so hard to tell the quality, just look in the oil buttle and if it is clean yellowish or colorless then it is good. I use a first pressing castor oil that comes from India but maybe castor oil is also locally made in your country? I mix this castor oil with Aerosave synthetic oil in 50/50 ratio. There is no need to run any engine dry or using after run oil, simply not needed and not worth the extra hassle.

I dont understand what is wrong with a castor/syntetic blend? Many very well known glow engine manufacturer still recommend a castor/syntetic blend to be used.

Besides pharmacy castor costing big bucks (cheaper on the drugstore) lubricating castor (first press) is only available to retailers or companies.
My flight instructor has access to this castor and made me a batch of fuel. It seems he's the man to talk to when buying castor :P

I pay £17.00 / Gallon for Prosynth 10% nitro. That's a proper gallon not a U.S. gallon. I think that works out at about $30 an imperial gallon.

I didn't say it was cheap , all I said was it's the best.

That's a better figure, I just pulled up that link and seen the cost...I think I was reading the table incorrectly. I also didnt't notice the UK price was for (4) 1/2 Gal.

Where in the U.S. can we buy Bakers AA castor other than through Sig, S&W, and other fuel suppliers? I did an internet search and found nothing. Baking supply houses maybe?

I use castor from motorcycle shops. Klotz Benol or Maxima Castor 927. I've used Sig castor but in diesel fuel it didn't blend well, but the others did.

There is also Fox Manufacturing, Morgans fuels, Klotz (though they don't say its Bakers AA it is), Castrol (hard to find), and VP racing. There may be others. You can find some of these, mostly Klotz, Castrol, and Morgans at stores that cator to alcohol powered racing go karts and motorcycles.

I have a full, unmarked, 1 US gallon jug of castor that a friend picked up for me at FOX. It has been in my climate controlled shop for 3 years. I will ship it to anyone that will pay shipping plus 10$. It may be OMD, I don't know. But I quit using the nasty stuff about the time I got it. I'm 100% synthetic now and loving it.

I get racing castor at a local motorcycle shop. Its pure degummed whatever, thats made for 2 strokes. The pharmacutical stuff makes black soot...

Your not subpose to use caster oil for the pharmacutical?I'd use it in my motor it's synthetic and cost 3.99 for 6oz. I'm going to ask you guys this? I have Traxxas 33% nitro fuel and it has 10% oil mix in it.I need to bump it up to 18% because I'm running nitro boats! and I'm out of the 20% nitro and the hobby shops around me dont have the 30-40% nitro fuels.How much oil do I add in a quart?[&:]

Blendzall is the better than Bakers AA in my opinion and you can buy it online.

Blendzall is formulated to mix better with gasoline, thus the name. Because we don't need that it may not be the best choice.

What in Blendzall would be detrimental to a model engine? Are you speaking form experience? It might be useful for my blends with kerosene. They do have several different types even viscosities.
