i dont see the point of this thread , we seen all this stuff in the other threads youve made , there was no point making a new thread about all the previous stuff youve already posted up before lol

Well he is, re-inventing the go-cart from scratch.

He's allmost to the point where you just buy one of these and install monster servos in it.

Cool project though!

OK I was thinking about my post last night. I'm sure it's been done, is there an easy way to convert a gocart to RC? I've always wanted one of those HPI gas buggies but those things are $1,200. I can get a gocart for $500. Could the conversion be done under $700? For the same price as the Baja you could have a huge freek'n buggy. I could layup a fiberglass Baja body for it also.

I can't seem to find any post on converting a go-kart to RC. I guess once it's big enough to ride in people forget about RC and want to ride.

Now I'm hooked on this idea though. I can see it now. "Wow cool go-kart! Hey wait a minuet where do you sit in this thing?" "You don't, this is my 1/2 scale RC car".

Go ahead.
Personally I'm not interested in converting something pre-made in to RC, as I enjoy tinkering and trying to figure out how to build everything from scratch.

Have a look around YouTube, there's plenty of people who have RC'd mini quad bikes.
And some full size ones too.
The steering is usually an issue though and you'd either need to get one of those Tonegawa servo's (expensive) or convert a windscreen wiper motor and make a H-bridge etc to power it (complicated).

Right got the upper arms tacked together.

Takes a while to put it all together.
7 bits and pieces per arm to be welded in place.

Alright, wheel setup done.
Now I've gotta figure out where and how to attach the arms to the frame.

Ooooh, i like this. Looks like a sturdy setup! Do you use your lathe to thread the ends of the bolts?

You mean the bolts/axles holding the wheels?

Yeah sort of but not - I turned the end down in the lathe a bit until I could slide the thread die over it to make sure I got it square on, then I put it in the vise and threaded it by hand.

Yep, the wheel/axle-bolts. Sometimes i support the thread die on the tailstock to get it square on to the axle and turn the chuck by hand, then i can apply some pressure on to it without using my own uneven pressure and wobbling

Try turning the end of the rod down a bit (usually about 1mm) next time so it just fits inside the die.
It really helps.

Second plate made up.

Another mock-up pic.

Gonna be a bit of a squeeze but I think it'll work.

Estimated track and wheelbase measurements.

Easier that way than trying to remember it or writing it down on a piece of paper which might get lost between the shed and the computer.....

Yes I have Mudgy.

I'm also thinking about lowering the rear mounting plate to achieve the same effect.
Gonna have a look at that this afternoon.
