I always recommend for someone to look for used HPI 5B platforms in their area before going the clone route. The price is comparable, and you often benefit from the stronger HPI parts.

This is my new bucket of bolts. 5B SS. Jetpro pipe, outerwears, billet main gear mount, limiting straps, 6V NiMH pack, Hot Bodies tires (blades and bow tie look a likes), Proline rear wheels, RPM arms all around, custom shock towers, etc. It has low use, but it is DIIIIRTY. Paid $550. It will need $50 in parts to be ready to go and it will look as good as new before I am done. I already have a custom body from my old 5B_SS before I turned it into a 5t.

A $550 5B SS with upgrades isn't a bad deal and pretty typical for what I see in my area. I see used HPI 5B and 5B_SS all the time on craigslist for $500-$600.

I wouldnt have paid more than 450. But enjoy it! It's definitely a better quality vehicle compared to the redcat.
on the other hand you could have bought a brand new nutech sandstorm for 629. Just saying.

Dale, hate to burst your bubble but $550 is way to much for that pile of sh*t. I see a mangled pipe, broken front a-arm, maybe low mileage but it looks like it got beat on in that short time. For that kinda money you can easily get an SS on ebay in better condition plus it's in one piece, sorry man but that looks ugly.

Heehee... Just wait a bit and see. The pipe is fine and the front a-arm isn't broken. When you see this $550 5B SS (with $100 in parts) when I am done, you guys will be surprised. It looks a million times worse than it is.

Of course it was assembled when I bought it, this is after I already took it apart to clean and tune it.

when you ready to clean that , go buy a bottle of spray on non acid wheel cleaner , its the stuff you use to clean your car rims with . spray it on leave for 15 seconds and then use high pressure water , ive done it to mine and it came up super shiny like brand new , and then yours could look like mine here lol well maybe not as good looking as mine lol

Hmmmm... Didn't even think about the wheel cleaner... This thing needs a deeper cleaning than that and it definitely won't look as good as yours.

TRUST me mate use wheel cleaner , i got the brand called meguires lol non acid wheel cleaner this stuff works better than degreaser , it just melts off ALL the dirt and greasy sludge build up and leaves it shining like brand new , but you must use high pressure water on it after waiting 15 to 30 seconds and dont let the product dry on the surface , and dont get it on your car paint

Aye, mate, she is ugly. I now have the differential apart. I wasn't sure why the plastic diff housing dirt was so caked on. The previous owner must not know what red threadlock is. The diff screws were loose and the silicon diff fluid leaked all around the outside of the plastic diff housing. One bearing was completely seized. Surprisingly, it is the same size as I use on Revos and Slashes (10x15x4) and I had spares. Still, no broken parts. It's all downhill from here.

There is an original 5B near me with some essiential mods that is asking for 500$. Trying to convince Dad to pick it up. 550$ isnt bad for an SS.

Dale, I noticed your original budget in your 1st post of $50 went up to $100 for repairs? What parts are you replacing and how does that 26cc look?

DarkFire989, do run you run rigs in this weather we are so blessed to be having??????

Ok, it needed some new axle bearings and I bought a new OEM roll cage for it with the 5T brace. The bearings were mandatory, the cage was optional.

The rear end is completely back together. No surprises.

I haven't given up on the Rampage yet, but it is on its last leg with me right now. I am doing my last round of mods/fixes to it and if I don't get some satisfaction out of it, it is going bye bye. Since I already cued up its replacement, you can see which way I am leaning.

i was thinking that with this post about ur new motor, i have just recently got a blackout (2 months now) which essentially is the same and i have bashed mine hard with minimal breakages, maybe the guy that put ur 1 together broke up with his g/friend the night before or something like that cause mine is pretty good

Here is how the rebuild is going. So far, I have only had to replace a few seized bearings. As another added bonus, I found that the front hubs have the e-clip eliminators on them and use screws to hold them down. Very cool...

I decided to add the Turtle Racing front brace (with the integrated shock tower)

I told you there was hope....

I guess there are some tutorials about this subject, you either tap the hubs, or put a screw through them and install some big washers where the e-clip goes. Or something like that

You can do the mod yourself like Lars pointed out or you can buy Vertigo Performance new clipless shafts or HPI's new set up used on the 5SC.

Turtle Racing rear shock mount
Turtle Racing 1-piece front shock mount

Dark Soul rear shock shafts with al ends
Metal gear steering
C-clip elimination front axles
Outerwears pullstart cover
