Does anypone own this 1/5 Monster Truck from Hobbyking?

RE: Does anypone own this 1/5 Monster Truck from Hobbyking?
I've known a handful of guys that have the clones. The plastic isn't as good of quality and things seem to break more often. HOWEVER, when they do break, you can replace with name brand parts. Heck, most guys swap the arms out for RPMs anyway so you really can't go too wrong. Most of my buddies complain about the motors so they eventually get swapped out. It's just like a clone of a T-Rex heli, people replace broken stuff with Align parts when things go wrong and in the end you have a mostly name brand R/C that is just as good or better.

Well i got to taking some pics of the truck,
so far all the plastic appears to be strong with excellent bite on anything threaded into it,
the belt drive cover which runs along the floor of the truck is as it should be,
with being two seperate channels for the belt to run inside without the teeth on the belt coming into contact with each other,
The belt drive also came well greased with a tacky type of blue grease,
i decided while i had the truck down as far id have a look at the diffs,
the diffs were heavy and are built alloy housings, a large plastic gear for the belt drive is bolted to both front and rear diffs,
the diffs are sealed units with O rings on each end,
they also came well packed with grease,
not wanting any grease escaping from the diffs i pulled the 4 bolts and seperated the diffs to allow instant gasket to be used on each end of the diff housings,
the shocks were also stripped apart,
these are all alloy shocks with o ring seals and seem to be well built,
each shock was full with the correct amount of fluid,
the shock shafts are 4mm thick,
There were both a large and small alloy engine mounts holding the rovan 26cc engine in place,
a large stainless tuned pipe comes as a 2 piece, which seperates close to the engine head,
the 2 pieces of exhaust are joined with the same type coupling as what comes on the hpi baja pig tail pipe,
rear drive shafts are ball drive at each end with the front being ball drive at the diff side and cvd at the wheel side,
all drive shafts are 7mm thick steel,
there was alot of side slop in the rear drive shafts as much as 5mm,
to fix this i adjusted the wishbone screws to leave it with 2mm of play,
the whole drive train is run on rubber sealed bearings,
the 2 steering servos have plenty of torque and turn the wheels with ease,
these are mounted in an alloy tray with alloy posts bolting it to the chassis,
the main chassis is 4mm thick with 2mm thick side rails,
the wheels come with pressed on steel bands around the drive squares,
the rubber in the tires feels similar to that of a rear baja hostile mx tire, so should last for years,
going to do the mesh mod on the engine while i have it out of the truck,
i have down loaded the 4wd fg manual and there are some slight differences between the build up of the rovan and the fg,
mainly being that the rovan truck uses C clips on the lay shaft and clutch bell to keep the gears on and the fg uses a bolt threaded into the the bell and layshaft,
very little else is different in looks that i can notice, so im certain that spares will not be an issue,

Thanks for the details and pics. looks like a pretty solid ride. Hopefully she runs as well as she seems to be built. Might pick one up down the road.

I'm pretty certain that the hobbyking truck comes with plastic engine mounts,
Quite happy that hobbyking has most spares in stock,
The pick up style body is very brittle,
Rovan are making a hummer body with extra strong polycarbonate, it's available soon,
I have one coming my way[8D]

I had a Hummer body for my FG MT. It didnt last very long. Flipped the truck on its lid after some big air and the body shattered.

Yea i hear the fg bodies dont last either,
rovan are aware of the pick up body being fragile and have addressed this in their hummer body,
they have told me it is very strong and looks great,
will have to see when it arrives.

Sparky - Thats awesome you bought one, now I really want one lol. Can you let me know from where and what the cost was that you got it for. I'm wondering if I should order the hobbyking one or the one from Rovan directly. Have you run it yet? Glad to see it seems like a good truck, going to make the decision on buying it much easier.

JUCD VPR,
i bought direct from rovan sport as hobbyking couldn`t give me time frame as to when they expected to have them in their hongkong warehouse,
the usa and austrailian warehouse do not ship international,
there was very little in the price between buying direct from rovan or getting it from hobbyking,
the rovan truck came rtr with flysky gt3b radio gear installed and also had alloy engine mounts fitted as stock,
i think the rovan supplied to hobbyking has plastic engine mounts and no radio gear,
No problem bbuzzard,
i will say that if anyone is expecting fg quality on these less than half price rovans,
they wont get it,
but for the price they are excellent.

what's the price from rovan?. do you have a link?.
i've looked all over and cannot find a price on them from rovan.
i don't want to get it from hobby king if they don't have the radio, aluminum engine mounts ect like yours.

After scrutinizing the pictures from both sites, I truly believe they are the same truck (Rovan vs HobbyKing). The servos look identical and I don't know of any other 4WD FG clone available anywhere. Still has my interest...[8D]
