Default Fail safe

Throttle servo fail at WOT on my MB Sunday. Thank God I got to it before the engine popped. I need links to any engine ignition cut off fail safes or a way to do it the home made way if anybody has one.. Thanks in advance.

Exact reason large scale cars should ONLY have a Shark racing fail safe. They will cut the engine if the battery voltage gets low or disconnected. It will also shut off the engine if the servo fails or comes unplugged. It will also shut off the engine if you shut off your radio. It is simply the best unit out there and is the only FS used in my cars period. You can find carlos on jims boat dock. He is very helpful and get you what you need.

Thinking about it you could add a second servo specifically to kick in, perhaps if the main throttle/brake servo fails, so it pushes the throttle arm to idle. Considering you only have one servo to rely on, a fail safe won't do much if the servo dies at high throttle and you don't have enough time to flip it on it's back (instead of smashing into something) I had a failsafe and that didn't do it's function since the servo failed.

Use a strong spring. Servo loses power or whatever and the spring snaps it back.

Our high torque servos can easily pull against the spring, but when the servo loses power or bettery gets unplugged the spring can force the throttle to closed.

I use this one on my FG Monster Beetle and it works great. It is a Venom Fail Safe.

I got mine from Mike at RCNUTS

How does the Shark Racing failsafe cut the engine? You have to push the yellow button in order to kill it, don't you? [sm=confused.gif]

Here's a website with shark failsafe info on it...[link=http://www.radioactivehobbies.com/failsafebcing.htm]shark failsafe[/link]

its a old outdated failsafe and from what i've heard from old timers around the local flying field it was real prone to interferance...so i guess kinda defeated purpose of a failsafe.

The shark fail safe has 2 wires that splice into your "off" button on the engine. All that button does is ground out the ignition. The fail safe does this for you if something happens. I dont know who told you they were out dated and why the heck air plane guys would be using a fail safe???? They are on their 5th generation of them. I still have a first generation one thats in a nitro. Its built for boats and cars. Its basically waterproof. I have been using them for many years now and never had one problem with any of 6 I have.

As has already been said a throttle return spring is all you need.............

Why rely on electronics that can and will mess up at some point when a simple spring will do the job?
