Default Ideas I thought I would share...

I recently had to buy a new Monster Beetle body, and after the paint was dry, I added a couple of details that might help this shell resist wearing out a bit longer than the last.

…I think they look pretty good, too.

The first thing I did was ream out the holes for the body posts ever so slightly (enough for a snug fit), and then I installed six metal grommets to keep the holes from tearing and cracking. I got them at Lowe’s for about $7.00, and they are two brass pieces that are hammered together with metal flaring tools. I think they were originally made for holes in fabric (tents and tarps), but they worked out really well in this application, too.

NOTE: You will probably want to trim the grommets that attach to the side holes as they will otherwise not quite fit against the body (examine the pictures and see if you can tell the difference in size…I trimmed them with household scissors). Also, be sure to lay the body on something that will not damage it before you hammer the two sections of brass grommets together (carpet, cardboard etc.).

The other addition that I made was the use of black rubber trim along the edges of the body…they always seemed unfinished to me. I do not know how well they will wear, but I superglued them in place, so they will not be coming off without a fight. [sm=pirate.gif]

The trim looks pretty good, but I was unable to install it on all of the small, curved edges, and unwilling to spend the time working myself into a tizzy over it. I ordered it from some on-line store, but I cannot remember where, so if you want to get a few meters worth you will have to search the internet or try your local hardware store. [sm=rolleyes.gif]

Good luck…and keep sharing your secrets!

Nice touch with the brass thingies..... and just to be an A**.. hehe

The trim WILL come loose. Believe me. And you will soon find yourself tearing the rest of the loose strings off.

On a show body perhaps. It looks so good and gives the finishing toush. I would agree in that. Make sure you have plenty of pictures with the trim on..

Cheers.
