Default New Bigfoot for me!!

The beast arrived today from RCNuts (Thanks Mike) and as you all know it is HUGE [X(]

Anyways I have a question...why does the Hi-Tech 5745 servo not fit the servo tray? The screw holes are placed too far apart. Am I missing something obvious?

Congrats on the new truck! Mike at RCNuts is a real nice guy. I couldn't budget the MT-5 so I ended up getting a slightly used Firehammer.

While I can't offer up advice on the steering servo, I highly recommend the Hitec 5945 servo for throttle/brake. It has a built-in programmable failsafe. I bought it from my local hobby shop and had them program the failsafe into the servo. It has tons of torque and the built-in failsafe removes the need for an external failsafe.

Good luck with your truck!

there is a piece in the bag on the antenna that you use to mount the 5745 to the radio tray. If you look in the manual at the picture you will see what I am talking about. If you do not call me I will go over it with you.

Congratz on the new truck !!! (I'm pretty sure beside the little surprise in the size of it, you got a big smile on your face when you open up the box right ) please feel free to post pictures whenever you want Yes they are quite big, and you will notice that they do move away fast to.. so make sure you have a failsafe that you test before running the truck, to be on the safe side.

Yes that's right, there should be a little plastic bag with some small stuff in it, and one of those things is the black servo adapter that you have to install your self.

Congrats on your new ride. I bought a FG Monster Beetle from Mike with RCNuts also. Nothing but first class. I had Mike install everything on the MB before he sent it, including a FG Pipe and front cable brakes. Have fun with your ride, i am loving mine. If your looking for a awesome custom airbrush job look up Steve Zeikle. He has painted 2 MB bodies for me.

The fail safe is an excellent idea. I have already gotten a Venom fail safe for the truck. I got the servos from Mike but I am using my JR XS-3 that came with my LST for a radio. I will be going to town tomoroow to get a 1 gal. gas can and some oil to mix. Then it's time for the break in time.

BTW the manual that came with the MT-5 is the worst I have seen

Make sure you buy a reliable servo for throttle/brake, this is more important than reliable steering throttles (at least if steering dies on you can stop it!) so don't buy a hitec digital

I got the 645 Hi-Tech servo for throttle and brakes.

What about the tires? No foams needed? And what about drilling the rims? Should I vent the rims?

Glue the tires well so there is no air getting out the sides....then on the inside/back of the rim drill one small 2 or 3 mm hole.
Thats what I did to my MT and they work very well....no flat spots.
No nead for the foam inserts.

I vent the tyres with a sharp 2.5mm drill bit in a dremmel right in the centre of the tyre tread. It makes it easier to drain out any water and dirt that gets in.

Hey Mad Wax,

What's your beef with Hitech digtial servos? Mine seems to work flawlessly.

If you were kidding, then the joke is on me ;-)

BTW - When you buy two-cycle oil, go synthetic. Go to a good bike shop and pick up a quart and a measuring cup. Here in North Carolina I can get a quart of synthethic for about $12. That's enough to make up 9 - 10 gallons of fuel. There are many great brands like these:

- Motul
- Belray
- Castrol

Have fun!

Thanks for the venting tips guys. This thing looks like alot of fun. The wife is gone to pick up the receiver and I already have everything else. I guess today is time to give it a little warm up. Any tips on the first couple of tanks? Should I let it idle a tank or drive it slowly?

Dont let it idle for any length of time. If your radio has end point adjustment set your throttle for about 60% open that way you can't over rev on the first few tanks don't keep the revs constant rev up and down I like a mineral oil for run in at 25/1 and after about 5 tanks change to a good quality synthetic like Ken suggested change the radio back to 100% and enjoy.

Engines are pretty bullet proof, I let it idle for half a tank- then took it on the field, occasionally blip at fully power then back to cruising around again. Why do you say not to let it sit there idling?

If you just let it idle the engine takes a long time to get to propper operating temperature and the bottom of the crankcase will stay significantly cooler which will cause the oil to collect there and not be where it is needed lubricating the piston and bore.

You can take this advice or not it's not my engine and yes they are pretty bulletproof but the more care you give them the longer they will run sweetly without needing a rebuild.

fourwheeler,

just a reminder, make sure you set the steering servo EPA between 85-95%. That will keep it from burning up. Did you find the adapter piece for the servo?

I never vented my MB tires...is that why it seems to float across the ground instead of digging into the terrain?
